Una oficina francesa de transferencia de tecnología que representa a un laboratorio público de la región Parisina ha desarrollado un nuevo dispositivo para mejorar el efecto de cavitación en varias industrias, como alimentación, cosmética y biotecnología, entre otras. Esta nueva técnica mecánica aumenta la capacidad volumétrica de los dispositivos de ultrasonidos. El dispositivo ha sido diseñado para superar la falta de reproducibilidad y las dificultades de ampliación de volúmenes aprovechando el uso de un generador multifrecuencia de gran amplitud. Se buscan socios industriales con el fin de establecer acuerdos de cooperación técnica, licencia o investigación.

A French TTO (Technology Transfer Office) is acting on behalf of an established public laboratory of the Paris region that has developed a new device to improve the cavitation effect in various industries like food, cosmectics or biotechnology process (among others). This new mechanical technique can increase the volume capacity of actual utrasonic devices.
The French public research centre is looking for partners for a technical cooperation, license or a research cooperation agreement.

The French TTO (Technology Transfer Office) is acting on behalf of an established public laboratory of the leading French scientific and medical university based in the Paris region.

* Market Challenges :
Cavitation is the formation of vapour cavities in a liquid, small liquid-free zones ("bubbles" or "voids"), that are the consequence of forces acting upon the liquid. Techniques based on cavitation are especially suitable in order to induce processes with a high activation energy. The concentration of energy produced during the bubble implosions can be used to promote certain processes requiring high pressures and temperatures.
One of the main issues of pre-existing techniques is the lack of reproducibility and control of the process of cavitation as well as the difficulties to upscale the technique to treat large volumes of liquid. This is the main drawback that prevents a wide application of techniques based on cavitation to industrial processes.

* Areas of application
This technique should be suitable for all the applications where ultrasonic and hydrodynamic cavitation has been successfully applied. Typical industrial processes where cavitation is used are : mixing, wastewater treatment, extraction of plants, homogenization (liquid/liquid, liquid/solid, liquid/gas), biogas and bioethanol yield enhancement, biomass treatments, process intensification applications, biodiesel production, or in food, cosmetic, nutraceutical, chemical and pharma industries such as biological cell disruption.

* Partnership
The French TTO is able to provide technical and legal assistance to facilitate the eventual partnership. In case of business potential, the prototype can be partially funded by the TTO.

The partner sought could be a university or a company interested in :
- a license agreement as the TTO is ready to negociate directly the patents rights for specific applications, or
- a research cooperation agreement considering the still relatively low Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of the actual device for some applications, or
- a technical cooperation agreement if the industrial application can benefit directly from the actual device.

Advantages and Innovations:
This device is conceived to overcome actual difficulties (lack of reproducibility and difficulties to upscale to larger volumes) by taking advantage of a high amplitude multifrequency generator. The latter is able to excite a wide range of frequencies with large amplitudes. Indeed it is designed to efficiently transmit pressure pulses through the liquid, exciting frequencies ranging from the low resonance frequencies (related to the response of bubble clusters) to the high frequencies (related to the oscillation of individual bubbles). The waves containing a significant amount of energy are effectively transmitted over long distances.
Besides, the various parameters available in the equipment design provide a good control of :
· the bubble radius distribution,
· the amplitude and frequency of the pressure excitation induced in the liquid.
The device is thus perfectly adaptable according to the specificities of every application.
