The research team is open to technical cooperation agreements for testing the system in industrial environments.

The Italian research team is active in the field of systems, software and simulation engineering. Research activities mainly focus on methods, techniques and technology for simulation based business process analysis.

Generally, commercial tools provide support for visually describing business processes (BPs), but the issues of simulating their behavior is non-trivial. The proposed technology consists of a user-friendly and web-based platform design for predictive analysis concerning BPs reliability, performance and involved resources. The platform is the entry point of a simulation system consisting of tools for WHAT-IF analysis, bottleneck identification and sensitivity analysis.
The technology supports process definition and process mapping and it is especially useful for BPs analysis concerning quality assurance. Since performance and reliability metrics can be easily obtained for different scenarios, the technology can be used also in a business process re-engineering perspective.

The scope of technical cooperation agreement is to implement the proposed technology in real industrial environments for validating the benefits that an enterprise can achieve by systematic BPs analysis.
Advantages and Innovations:
The proposed technology is user friendly and web-based. It can exploit a SaaS (Software As A Service) paradigm, and can implement IoT (Internet of Things) principles. The main innovative aspect of the proposed technology relies on the quantitative simulation oriented analysis of business process behaviour. The standard with which the user can model the process is the business process model and notation (BPMN), enhanced with performance and reliability properties.
The underlying software exploits a chain of transformations (model-to-model and model-to-text) to obtain a java code ready for simulation. The code can be seamlessly executed and an output with performance and reliability predictions can be easily obtained. By combining the two measures of performance and reliability, a further metric called "performability" can be estimated.
The proposed technology enables the user to investigate on the use of alternative resources associated to the same activity, exploring the possibilities of swapping them with different policies (hot-standby, cold-standby) and analysing the impact on the overall process.
