Homecare platform for the treatment of neurological disorders
Summary:
An Italian university laboratory is developing a product to treat neurological disorders by delivering non-invasive neuromodulation directly at home with a cost-effective, portable device. It is developing a product to treat these disorders by delivering non-invasive neuromodulation directly at home with a cost-effective, portable device. It looking for investors, clinical partners for performing trials, healthcare industries -Y- SMEs for joint ventures, manufacturing for the healthcare market.
Description:
The laboratory of Italian University deals with infrastructure for interdisciplinary research in the areas of electronic device modeling, nanosystems, microsystems and ICT. The research activities are focused on non-pharmacological homecare therapies for treatment of disorders associated with abnormal behaviour of the central nervous system.
Several debilitating disorders (depression, epilepsy, tinnitus, migraine, insomnia) are associated with abnormal behaviour of the central nervous system. The laboratory is developing a product to treat these disorders by delivering non-invasive neuromodulation directly at home with a cost-effective, portable device.
It looking for investors, clinical partners for performing trials, healthcare industries -Y- SMEs for joint ventures, manufacturing for the healthcare market.
Prototypes of the device are available for proof-of-concept testing. A fully functional prototype is under fabrication and will be available early in the first half of 2017.

Advantages and Innovations:
The device would be the first to provide homecare treatments through non-invasive neuromodulation based on transcranial electrical stimulation. The additional peculiarity of the device is its capability to continuously monitor the neurophysiological effects of the stimulation in order to maximize the effectiveness of therapy in real-time. The device will also allow continuous therapy monitoring, improvement and personalization from data analysis by clinicians (on single patient) and automated data mining (on the whole patient database).
The potential market is in several debilitating diseases areas. At the current stage, the research group focus on tinnitus, a condition with a high incidence and for which no cure is accepted by the healthcare community. Total current EU market for tinnitus treatment is estimated in -Y-euro;20B/year with societal costs in excess of -Y-euro;50B.
