A Czech university has developed a software portal for innovative companies, research institutes and universities with a need to use, store and analyse electrophysiology data that are well annotated and could be publicly visible. The university is also offering already collected, stored and well annotated electrophysiology data required for research and development goals or for commercial use. Partner sought should be interested in license agreement.
Description:
An operation of electrophysiology laboratory, design and performance of electrophysiology experiments (electroencephalography, event-related potential), collection, storage and sharing of experimental data and metadata including subsequent analysis and interpretation of data are time consuming activities. If these activities are well organized and supported by a suitable infrastructure, work efficiency of experimenters significantly increases. Usually most of these data are simply stored in folders on hard drives without proper annotation. Therefore, these data will soon become incomprehensible.

The Czech university has developed software portal for researchers to store, annotate, manage, process, share, download and search data and metadata from electrophysiology experiments. The integrated semantic framework provides experimental metadata in the semantic web technologies and languages (RDF-resource description framework, OWL-ontology web technology). The data are managed through several user interfaces: web and mobile user interfaces for human readers, semantic web interface for automatic reasoners and web services for third party tools. The output is provided in common used data formats. The mobile version of the software portal is used in environments where internet connectivity is not available (the data are synchronized with the software portal via web services after the internet reconnection). The portal has been designed and developed using robust open source technologies and semantic web resources to ensure future extensibility of the application and sustainability of stored data and metadata. The graphical user interface is flexible, it allows users to create and reuse customized metadata templates to cover a larger number of laboratory needs in terms of the variety of stored data and metadata. Standardized terminology is supported as well as new terminologies can be interactively created. The stored data/metadata are backed up and anonymized for data non-owners.

The Czech university is offering license to innovative companies (for example focused on the development of biosensors, EEG devices or companies providing services in BCI, neurofeedback and neurorehabilitation), R-Y-D institutions and universities with the need of collection, long-term storage, annotation, analysis and sharing of electrophysiology data and metadata or with the need to use already collected, stored and well annotated electrophysiology data required for commercial purposes or for research and development goals.

In comparison with already existing solutions for collection, storage and sharing of experimental data and metadata of electrophysiology experiments, the software portal (web based application) provides a flexible data and metadata model available through a graphical user interface. Standardized terminology is supported as well as customized metadata templates and new terminologies can be interactively created.
