Estas características hacen que la tecnología esté indicada para cualquier tipo de aplicación dinámica. La tecnología utiliza como fuente etiquetas inalámbricas robustas y de bajo coste. El sistema no solo hace un seguimiento de la posición sino también de la orientación de todas las etiquetas, incluso en movimiento. Efficient indoor positioning and asset tracking
A spin-off from a Swedish research institute offers a new, self-configuring indoor positioning technology, which is very flexible and adaptive, robust and fully scalable. That makes it particularly suitable for all kinds of dynamic circumstances. The technology uses no other source than the low-cost, robust wireless tags.
The company is looking for technology licensing and technical cooperation partners within construction, first responders, hospitals, mining, and other applicable areas.
The GPS system has proven the benefits of professional positioning and asset tracking. GPS-based solutions are low-cost, they don't need configuration of local hardware, nor calibration or system maintenance. No wonder they have become very popular.

However, there's one big drawback. GPS only works outdoors. For indoor positioning various approaches exist, but none as user-friendly and problem-free as GPS. Today's indoor positioning technologies require on-site hardware installations with system configuration. The systems are quite susceptible to noise and disturbances. And they don't scale well - increased coverage demands new hardware, new configuration and new calibration. Many systems also use a central database to store and map the radio information - a database that has to be manually updated for each change.

In contrast, the technology proposed by the Swedish startup for indoor positioning and asset tracking is robust, flexible, adaptive and easily scalable, making it very cost-efficient, especially for dynamic applications. The technology uses no other source than the communicating, low-cost, robust, wireless tags themselves. It can detect and track any number of tags. To track an item - just provide it with a tag. To cover more indoor areas - just place any number of tags wherever feasible. All added tags will be automatically detected and tracked. There's no need for cabling, nor for configuration of hardware or calibration. No database is necessary. Instead the technology uses a small number of tags as stationary Base Anchors, preferrably with known locations. If the Base Anchors have real world coordinates then all the connected tags will also get that. The system will not only track the position but also the orientation of all tags, even while in motion. It can be used outdoors as well as indoors.

The innovation is based on state-of-the art signal processing, and is developed by a leading Swedish research institute. The technology is patented.

Advantages and Innovations:
The innovation consists mainly of a distributed algorithm for relative positioning of an infinite number of nodes. All nodes are essentially identical, and can communicate through any kind of communication medium, although radio will probably be the most common and practical for most applications. Possible radio standards include BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy), Wifi, Zigbee and Ultra Wideband. For radio communication, simple, inexpensive and power efficient antennas suffice, and each require only a small program and a little Random Access Memory in each node. The method is very energy-efficient which means the tags can have long battery lifetime.

The technology uses directional information (Angle-of-Arrival, AoA), and optionally also distance information, combined with estimation by recursive filters. Although the method is distributed and decentralized, it converges quickly to a stable estimate of position and orientation for each node. The AoA information can be provided by an electronically controlled directional antenna.

Advantages include quick start, easy installation, an adaptive and scalable solution, robustness to noise and other disturbances, low running costs, and opportunity for sensor fusion. The system is self-configuring without need for cabling, fixed hardware installtion, system configuration or calibration-dependent databases. The method is not dependent on initial guesses to converge.

The accuracy is automatically improved continuously, and the system adapts automatically to changes in the environment. The algorithm is very robust and designed for heavy noise in measurements. Both the orientation and position are updated for every message received. The convergence is guaranteed.

All tags can be equipped with sensors and thus enabled to communicate bonus sensory information.
