Description:
The French company is quite simply the designer and industrial producer of the world´s first hand-finished polyurethane surfboard to feature a polycarbonate skin. Founded in 2010, the French company specialises in surfboard designs, using the latest materials and developing new processing methods that replace traditional layering and sanding techniques. Constantly developing new concepts, the French company manufactured an eco-friendly polycarbonate UV board, deploying processes, methods and materials that reduce the impact on the environment. This involved an in-house development of a bespoke machine to mechanize and automate the process as well as hand finishing methods supporting the reduction of waste material plus a recycling programme. Selected primarily for its adhesion to polycarbonate, the French company used an innovative composite material to seal the polycarbonate skin in place, bringing toughness and flexibility at the same time. This low viscosity, fast, cold curing system provides easy processing, supporting low-cost efficient manufacturing and repairs. Its physical properties also help the board to maintain its shape whilst providing transparency and UV stability for long-term clarity. The French company is now looking for the right European partner to scale-up the production process. Manufacturing -Y- license agreements are sought.
Advantages and Innovations:
Polycarbonate offers many advantages for surfboard manufacturing. Benefits for staff and the environment are gained through a cleaner and healthier production process, which does not emit toxic chemicals or produce dust when sanded. The biggest advantages for users are found in the resistance to impact and shock. Other beneficial properties include fracture toughness, heat resistance, and excellent dimensional and colour stability. Hand finishing the board helps to reduce the wastage of excess material, which is then broken down in the delivery of a 100% recyclable process. This polycarbonate surfboard represents a technological first in the manufacture of eco-designed surfboards. More recently, this surfboard design received two first prizes in the Technological and Ecological categories of the EuroSIMA Industry -Y- Innosport Awards.

The French company is looking for European partners able to industrialize such designers´ board at large scale, under a manufacturing and/or license agreement. Partial know-how transfer would be implemented accordingly so the European Partner could get sufficient production autonomy. Initial production has been set up in Spain and Southern France, but the French company is open to any competitive proposal to crank up production volumes.
