Un instituto español de investigación médica ha desarrollado un procedimiento de diagnóstico y pronóstico de enfermedades renales crónicas (ERC) y enfermedades cardiovasculares, una herramienta muy precisa y útil para pronosticar el desarrollo y evolución de estas enfermedades en fase temprana. Los nuevos biomarcadores mejoran la predicción de la enfermedad en pacientes normotensos y proteinúricos. El instituto busca socios especializados en ensayos clínicos, desarrollo de medicamentos y enfermedades del riñón con el fin de validar y comercializar el procedimiento.

Summary:
A Spanish health research institute has developed a diagnostic and prognostic procedure of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and cardiovascular disease which is a very accurate and useful tool for predicting the development and progression of these diseases at an early stage. The institute is looking for industrial partners to validate and commercialize the procedure.
Description:
Currently in the clinical practice there are many difficulties to carry on an accurate diagnosis of chronic kidney disease (CKD), particularly at an early stage. For this reason it is interesting to know/quantify specific and sensitive biomarkers to identify the presence and evolution of renal disease and its cardiovascular risk associated.
The Spanish Health Research Institute has developed a method of early diagnosis of CKD and the associated cardiovascular disease based on the identification of specific metabolic whose concentration varies comparing to healthy people.
The patented process has the following steps:
a) sampling from biological fluids i.e. urine and / or plasma, tissues or cells,
b) detecting of at least one metabolite such as 5-oxoproline, glutamate, guanidoacetate, alpha-phenylacetylglutamine, taurine, trimethylamine N-oxide (TMNO), homocysteine, leucine, threonine and citrate by means of Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR).
c) quantifying the concentration of the detected metabolites at the step b) by liquid chromatography-coupled to a triple quadrupole Mass spectrometry system (LC-MS-QQQ) ("selected reaction monitoring" (SRM) technique).
d) comparing the obtained concentrations of metabolites with respect to healthy people and making the diagnosis of chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease.
The Institue is looking for agreements with partners to validate and commercialize the method.
