Esto permite añadir propiedades antioxidantes a moléculas con propiedades farmacológicas. Las modificaciones se basan en manipulación química. Se buscan compañías farmacéuticas con el fin de establecer acuerdos de joint venture, cooperación en materia de investigación y licencia.

Summary:
A start-up firm, along with researchers from Spain, has developed a technology that can modify molecules with biological and pharmacological activity, in order to modulate specifically the response of the organism in different diseases. This add, to molecules with pharmacological properties, antioxidant properties. The modifications are based in chemical manipulation. Pharmaceutical companies to reach joint venture, research cooperation and license agreement are sought.
Description:
The process to improve the medicine´s effectiveness, in order to modulate specifically the response of the organism in different diseases, is made through the modification of the molecule chemical structure, following these phases:

-Drug selection: consists in looking for in the market, either drugs under development or those with well-known therapeutic activity, in which the molecule modification, through introduction of fragment with specific properties (antioxidant, lypophillic etc), can determine a significant improvement of its therapeutic advantages.

-Chemical modification of the selected molecules: in this phase, original molecules will be modified chemically, using previously developed strategies.

-Checking both biological activity an added value of synthesized molecules: the tests will be made with different technologies, depending of the initial products selected.

-Commercial exploitation of synthesized products: in this final phase, a profitability of the new products should be obtained.

Currently, molecules derived from an antihypertensive drug that blocks the receptor of angiotensin II are available, with high antioxidant properties. These molecules are obtained by modification of the original structure, by adding different antioxidant fragments.

The molecules obtained keep the antagonist activity over the receptor of angiotensin II being, at the same time, powerful antioxidants, so they are able to reduce more efficiently both hypertension and tissue damage.

They are looking for pharmaceutical companies to reach joint venture and/or manufacture agreements and license agreement.

The molecules developed to treat hypertension have an added value, compared with molecules with similar function, due to its antioxidant properties. Oxidative processes in hypertension contribute to the worsening of vascular and renal performance in patients, so these molecules are ideal to counteract these effects. Also, the increasing the organism oxidation have a negative effect over diverse organs and systems, and has been involved in the development of many diseases.

Advantages:

It is an important innovation related with hypertension therapy and in the design of the new molecules which are programmed modifications of existing already existing drugs, to which are added important therapeutic advantages.

There is a broad world market of antioxidants (from natural sources or not), and the arterial hypertension field is the area which has the higher support in R+D+i.

The research group is looking for agreements forjoint venture or R-Y-D cooperation of pharmaceutical firms, supporting them both in preclinical and clinical development phases, needed for the development and final exploitation of the drugs. Subsequently to this phase or eventually in a direct way, the group is also interested in selling the patent exploitation rights of the molecule to those companies bu license agreement.
