Estos compuestos pueden emplearse para producir poliuretanos o poliésteres específicos, que pueden aplicarse en diferentes sectores industriales. Summary:
A Belgian Research center has developed a green process for the synthesis of multifunctional unsaturated compounds with atmospheric or molecular oxygen, in the presence of at least one catalyst starting from synthetic or vegetable oils. These compounds can be used to produce polyurethanes or specific polyesters that can be applied in several industrial sectors. The center looks for companies for licencing patent rights and academic and industrial collaborations to explore further applications.
Description:
A Belgian Research Center based in Brussels has developed an alternative process for the synthesis of a multifunctional unsaturated compound (formula (I) attached) which comprises reacting an unsaturated compound of formula (II) - file attached - with atmospheric or molecular oxygen, in the presence of at least one catalyst starting from synthetic or vegetable oils.

The products generated from this process are monomers for preparing polymers or bio-sourced polymers like polyurethanes and specific polyesters.
The benefits of the green process are:
¿ Atmospheric oxygen as reactant;
¿ Low energy process (catalysis);
¿ Solvent free technology,
¿ Atom economy (atomic efficiency : 100 %), no waste, no by-products,
¿ Recycling of catalyst,
¿ Polymers with reactive organic functions

The benefits of the products:
Flexibility of the process allows to obtain
¿ a wide variety of monomers and therefore
¿ a large variety of polymers or
¿ biopolymers (when starting from vegetable oil)
which can themselves be functionalized for specific properties (like anti-bacteria, adhesive, ...)
