Se buscan industrias dedicadas a la producción de baterías y energía para buscar aplicaciones en dispositivos de baja potencia y establecer acuerdos de cooperación técnica e investigación. Description:
A French research team, composed of biochemical and physiochemical expertise, develops substantial original work on the electrochemistry of redox proteins; replacing conventional platinum with enzymes. Their interest is focused on hydrogenases; key enzymes for hydrogen (H2) transformation in many organisms. The team designed the first Hydrogen (H2) / Oxygen (O2) biofuel cell based on hydrogenase purified from an extremophilic bacterium. This hydrogenase presents outstanding properties of temperature, oxygen, presence of impurities and carbon monoxide tolerances (up to 85°C), all of which are highly interesting for a biocatalyst.
The current density found is 5 mA/cm2. Two prototype batteries have been developed thus far, with power delivery up to 1,5 milliWatts / cm2. Therefore, industrial applications should be on low power devices such as toys, communications or sensors. Industries dealing with biofuel cells, energy production, and battery (with expertise on electrochemistry, enzyme, materials...) are sought for joined development of innovative biofuel cell based on enzymes.
The applications are also very well suitable for confined environments at ambient temperature; therefore others industrial applications requiring power production in such environments are considered.
The research team envisages also the powering of the biofuel cell with hydrogen produced directly from biomass (thus requiring little purification).
