Details

Tittle:
Patented protein for the diagnosis of Chagas disease
Summary:
A French research institute has patented a candidate protein for the diagnosis of Chagas disease; the protein has proven immunogenicity and was well recognized by the serum of the patient with Chagas disease. Companies dealing with diagnostic and screening for Chagas disease are sought for licensing, research or technical cooperation agreement.
Description:
Chagas disease (or American trypanosomiasis) is a tropical parasitic disease caused by the protozoan Trypanosoma, and spread mostly by insects. The symptoms change over the course of the infection.
Proteins secreted by parasites Trypanosomatidae family plays a major role in the infection and in the modulation of the immune response of the host. One of these proteins has proven immunogenicity and was well recognized by the serum of patients with Chagas disease. The identified protein, protected by patent, is a candidate for a new diagnostic tool for Chagas disease.
A diagnostic proposal is currently under development; companies involved in human health diagnostic are sought for research or technical cooperation agreement. Possibility of co-development with licensing agreement. The aim of the agreement being to implement the patented protein into the diagnostic of Chagas disease.
Advantages and Innovations:
- Screening for Chagas disease, a marker of "healing" or post-treatment monitoring (secreted proteins weekly expressed)
- Possibility to use this protein in a diagnostic strip: rapid, simple and low cost test
Stage of Development:
Under development/lab tested
IPs:
Patents granted
CommeR Statunts Regarding IPR Status:
Patent covering Europe (granted), current extension procedure for Brazil, USA
