Description:
Endoprosthesis play an important role in medicine and help to meet the needs of a steadily aging but more active population. Today, among older adults, an unprecedented number of orthopaedic surgeries are taking place to repair or replace, for example, hips and knees. Ceramic endoprosthesis typically consist of oxidic material. Oxidic ceramics are mostly used due to their easier manufacturability and well-consolidated processes. In comparison, non-oxide other ceramic materials feature better properties in terms of mechanical resistance and biocompatibility but they find very limited application as they are more difficult to process.
The technology, developed by the Italian SME, addresses this aspect and presents a process for fabricating endoprosthesis mainly silicon-based nitride/carbides.
The Italian company, based near Milan, has long-term experience in ceramic material development and characterisation. Many innovative solutions have been developed for the customers. A large number of production facilities and process know-how are offered together with analytical and testing services to monitor the entire process and material performance at different stages.

The envisage cooperation sought can be both license and technology cooperation agreement. The main scope is the marketing of a technology with high potentiality for both high-volume and high value-added niche products.
In the case of technology transfer the company will provide its expertise and know-how in order to adapt the technology to a customised product and/or a process to meet technical and market needs. Development will be supported by feasibility study including customised tests for a specific application. The partner is expected to provide a technical support for the target application as well as sharing or making available necessary facilities.
Alternatively the company is also contemplating a Licensing Agreement in return for a fee or share of royalties.
