A small Czech company focused on embedded systems has developed a software prototype of a sound event detector with low hardware requirements for real time recognition of selected sound (e.g. breaking glass) with applications in indoor or outdoor sound surveillance. The company is seeking producers of security technologies, hardware manufacturers or companies focusing on home automation systems for further technology development and the creation of joint ventures for market introduction.
Description:
There are situations when timely response is crucial such as situation immediately after shooting or housebreaking. Every second that can be saved matters. One of the ways how the response time can be shortened is use of a remote sound detection. If there will be sound detector while gun shooting or breaking glass, policemen or ambulance can earlier get on site.

The Czech company is developing 32-bit embedded solutions and specific mobile applications. This company has developed the software prototype of sound event detector for detection of abnormal acoustic events such as glass shattering, scream or gunshot. The sound event detector provides real time recognition of select sound including detection of impulsive sounds and its classification based on supervised machine learning. Model of sound event detector has been tested and pre-computed on 40 GB of sound data with multiple level of white noise and urban sound events in background. Potential domain of application of sound event detector is in indoor or outdoor sound surveillance. For outdoor solution, the sound event detector could be placed on public places such as cities in general, supermarkets, schools, sport arenas and others. For indoor solution, the sound event detector could detect glass shattering during robbery (84% of thieves gets into houses by window).

The company is looking for producer of security technologies, hardware manufacturers or home automation systems companies interested in joint further technology development and joint venture. Joint further development will include hardware development of sound event detector based on low energy MCU (microcontroller unit) running on battery or solar panel with global connectivity, and detection of other types of sounds (e.g.: explosions, gunfire, specific sound of people falling on the ground, scream). The aim of the joint venture will be introduction of the final version of the sound event detector with appropriate security certifications to the market, product marketing and sales.
Advantages and Innovations:
1. Low HW requirements - low complexity algorithm, the sound event detector can run on low power ARM CPU (advanced risc machine central processing unit) as well as on power efficient MCUs (micro controller unit).
2. Low memory requirements - only 0.5 seconds of sound sample for analysis in memory is required (size of memory depends on sample rate).
3. The sound event detector could be easily adapted for different type of sound events.
4. Real-time detection on low power MCU - optimized on STM32 L4, only 400ms needed to classify 0.5 second sound event.
