Description:
More than 60% of the world's population already lives in cities near deltas. Because of the changing climate and rising sea levels, there is a strong need to be able to live safely in these areas. There are tremendous opportunities to use the abundance of dredged materials for the building of lifesaving flood protections, like dike reinforcements and related infrastructural solutions.
The Dutch partner developed several innovative solutions and technologies by using locally available dredged materials to build dikes and dike reinforcements. The concept is based on the use of dredged sediment that needs to be disposed of during and after dredging operation. This material is pumped directly into tubes made of geotextile material and after consolidation and hardening, it is in-situ directly suitable and functioning as a dike reinforcement, natural bank, port structure or for example as a breakwater. The Dutch company is interested in commercial agreements with technical assistance with government agencies and building and construction companies.

Advantages and Innovations:
This innovative and new way of using of waste material is a cost effective, sustainable and environmentally safe solution to dispose of dredged materials. Building with these waste materials generates huge cost savings regarding dumping and transportation, as well as diminishing the cost for extraction, purchase and transport of raw materials and half-fabricates, like concrete and steel.
