Un instituto de investigación búlgaro con más de 40 años de experiencia en I+D en el campo de tecnologías y productos especializados de física espacial, detección remota y sistemas y tecnologías aeroespaciales ha desarrollado nuevos revestimientos de níquel químico sobre nano, micro y macrosuperficies. El tamaño de las nanopartículas es extremadamente pequeño en comparación con otras soluciones. Los diamantes nanométricos son un nanomaterial especial cuya producción, modificación y uso son de gran interés para científicos e ingenieros y tienen un amplio campo de aplicación. El instituto busca empresas y centros de I+D con el fin de establecer acuerdos de cooperación técnica e investigación.

The institute is seeking to reach research cooperation agreements and and technical cooperation agreements with companies and R-Y-D institutions.
Description:
The technology is developed by a Bulgarian research institute, with over 40 years of experience in R-Y-D of specialised technologies and products related to space physics, novel materials and coating technologies and others. The unit has broad experience in international collaboration and successful interdisciplinary international projects.

Electroless plating methods has attracted considerable attention on behalf of the researches and engineers due to several advantages over electroplating such as utilization of a simpler process allowing producing very uniform deposits in thickness all over the part´s shape and size both on metals and non-conductive materials. Electroless nickel plating is preferred method during others electroless processes ensuring layer of nickel alloy (nickel-phosphorus), characterised with improved functional properties. Nickel coatings are widely used as a matrix for composite coatings with micro- and nanoadditives.

The developed novel technology for coatings uses dispersed co-deposited ultra-fine hard reinforcing particles (as ceramics, diamond, fluor polymers etc.) within hard matrix. The composite counteracts as a unit with different impact. A strong bond between the matrix and the dispersed particles is achieved. There are too many possibilities about the dispersed phase choice. The technology takes into account the nature, properties and size of embedded particles influence on the structure and the functional properties of the plated layer i. e. wear resistance, friction coefficient, thermal stability, abrasion, hardness etc. The technology achieves higher specific surface area and quantum effects dominate the properties of matter as size is reduced to the nanoscale, affecting material properties. For other materials such as crystalline solids, as the size of their structural components decreases, there is much greater interface area within the material - affecting positively both mechanical and electrical properties.

The institute is looking for research cooperation agreements with other R-Y-D units and companies with R-Y-D activities for joint project development and technical cooperation activities with companies for adaptation to specific needs and the material to be used.
Advantages and Innovations:
- perspective on finding new physical and mechanical and performance characteristics, hence new opportunities for diverse applications of the received coatings allows the use of nano-sized particles as reinforcements;
- extremely small size of the nanoparticles in comparison to other technological solutions - on the base of their unique properties;
- nanosized diamonds are a specialised nanomaterial niche, whose production, modification and usage are of wider interest for scientists and engineers and have broad application;
- the addition of nanodiamonds to the plating solution allows producing not only high wear resistance coatings but also coatings with low friction coefficient compared to the nickel-phosphorus coatings;
- the developed heat treatment process in the institute leads to coatings improved properties.
