Shear connection stiffness in timber-concrete floor structures
Summary:
A Czech university developed a new type of timber-concrete composite structure. This kind of structure arrangement allows severalfold higher parameters of load-carrying capacity and stiffness of the composite system while the volume of material used can be significantly reduced. The university is looking for a construction companies which will be interested to use the technology in their own business activities and offers license or commercial agency agreement with technical assistance.
Description:
This new type of timber-concrete composite structure was developed by Czech university and is protected by patent application.

Timber-concrete and steel-concrete composite structures are currently used in floor structures of structural engineering and bridge construction. The principle consists in connecting a reinforced concrete slab, which is mainly subjected to compression in the structure, and timber beam which is predominantly subjected to bending. The connection of both parts of the cross-section is realized by shear connectors. Shear connectors form a shear connection system, and this system ensures redistribution of internal forces between different parts of the composite cross-section. Shear connectors are largely subjected to shear stress. This kind of structure arrangement allows severalfold higher parameters of load-carrying capacity and stiffness of the composite system while the volume of material used can be significantly reduced. Other advantages of timber-concrete composite structures include improved thermal-technical, acoustic and fire properties compared to the traditional wooden structures.

According to the nature of load-slip relationships, the timber-concrete composite structures can be divided into structures with rigid, semi-rigid a ductility connection systems. The structures with ductility connection system mainly include structures where the shear connectors are discrete metal mechanical fasteners of pin type such as nails, screws, staples, pins. Rigid connection is ensured by means of glued-in hear connectors, continuous wood meshes, steel lattices glued to timber or flat glued joints. A special way of connection is represented by techniques where the connection is ensured by indentations in timber, interlayer profiling (formwork), or combinations of different types of connection such as grooved holes and dowels.

The technology was tested in two material variants of glued joint. The technology is protected by a Czech patent CZ 2013 187 and by international PCT/CZ2015/000069.

The university is looking for a construction and building companies which will be interested to use the technology in their own business activities. University offers license or commercial agency agreement with technical assistance. The university offers the acquisition of the technology and offers technical support with the tranfer of the technology. The university is also ready to transfer the rights involving the technology to the partner.
Advantages and Innovations:
1. The technology allows the creation relatively cheap and environmentally careful small and medium sized buildings and bridges.
2. Invented timber-concrete composite structure is new and untypical in its design and material arrangement in relation to existing famous building structures of this nature.
3. Invented timber-concrete composite beam is very easy to produce
4. Other advantages of timber-concrete composite structures include improved thermal-technical, acoustic and fire properties compared to the traditional wooden structures.
Stage of Development:
Available for demonstration
IPs:
Granted patent or patent application essential
CommeR Statunts Regarding IPR Status:
The technology is protected by a Czech patent CZ 2013 187 and by international PCT/CZ2015/000069.

Partner sought

Type and Role of Partner Sought:
Searched partner should possess the required technology for the production of the new structural component. The ideal solution is to expand the existing production capacity of this new system. The sought partner should be from construction or building sector. The university offers the acquisition of the technology and offers technical support with the tranfer of the technology. The university is also ready to transfer the rights involving the technology to the partner. They are ready to provide partners with introductory assistance.
