Un instituto de investigación eslovaco ha desarrollado un nuevo sensor de gas que, a diferencia de los sensores convencionales basados en metales nobles como paladio, se basa en polímeros conductores. El nuevo método de fabricación garantiza una mayor precisión en la medición de gases y unos costes operativos inferiores. El sensor se aplica principalmente en la detección de hidrógeno y amoníaco. Se buscan socios con el fin de establecer acuerdos de licencia para comercializar y lanzar nuevos productos.

Due to innovative manufacturing method, higher precision of gas measurements for lower operational costs is ensured. The invention is applicable mainly for hydrogen and ammonia detection. The research institute is looking for partners through licensing agreement for commercialization and incorporation into new products.
Description:
The invention relates to a method of gas sensor fabrication that is designated for more precise measurement of gases, predominantly hydrogen and/or ammonia, by application of electric and electromechanical means. The offered technology uses conducting polymers and thus differs from conventional gas sensors based on noble metals such as palladium. This way, the developed gas sensor is available for much lower costs, while delivering high sensitivity, even in circumstances with low gas concentration.

Today, hydrogen sensors are predominantly used for safety reasons or monitoring in various fields of industry, including manufacturing, semiconductors, nuclear energy and environmental protection. Considering the growing hydrogen economy and increase in use of hydrogen fuel cells, there is a wide range of applications of the offered technology.

The research institute is a scientific institution based in 1942. Researchers implements international projects supported by EU, projects supported by ERDF, national projects supported by national institutions - APVV agency and VEGA agencies. The Institute is focused on the R&D of semiconductor, superconductor, oxide and magnetic materials and devices, including theoretical and experimental study of their structural, optical, transport properties and devices for the information technology and power engineering.
