Description:
Microprocessors are widely used now in measuring devices. A topical task is to improve the characteristics of measuring devices through the emerging computational capabilities. The most advanced direction of this development today is the creation of measuring devices with eigenstate valuation in the course of operation, including self-calibration and graduation of a measuring device.
The Russian company offers an engineering design and operating principal of self-calibrating temperature sensor based on melting points. The device consists of a commercially available platinum film sensor with a special coating. The coating is a combination of low-melting alloys' powders mixed with a self-solidifying liquid. The powder mixed with a solidifying elastic foundation retains its properties over the entire operating temperature range of the thermometer. In the process of calibration, while the temperature of the alloy transits through the melting point, the temperature of the sensor is stable for some time. The melting temperature of the alloy is measured with a reference thermometer. Its value is recorded in the microprocessor memory. The received value is compared with the temperature measured by the platinum resistance thermometer. The difference of the temperatures shows the absolute uncertainty of the thermometer for a given measured temperature that allows correcting its accuracy. The device measures the temperature within the range from -50C to +250C. Presently, a sample batch of the temperature sensors is manufactured and successfully tested.
The novelty of the proposed technology is a method of sensor self-graduation in the course of operation. Application of the technology allows increasing the accuracy of measurement, as well as the recalibration interval, that reduces the operation costs.
Advantages and Innovations:
The problem of available analogs is appearance of mechanical stress, resulting from melting/solidifying of the agent used for calibration. It leads to destruction of the thermometer.
The innovation aspect of the proposed technology is the know-how of mixing the alloy agent with a solidifying elastic foundation that protects the sensor from destruction.
In comparison with existing analogues, the technology has a number of advantages:
- Increased recalibration interval (up to 8 years)
- Reduction of operating costs
- High measurement accuracy.
