Summary:
A South East UK research group with expertise in the deployment of autonomic systems concepts (and especially context-awareness) into embedded systems has developed a range of unique tools for use in pervasive healthcare systems, accessibility and support systems for disabled users, and environmental and infrastructure monitoring systems (to name but a few applications). End users in the aforementioned and related sectors are sought to joint develop and help commercialise the systems.
Description:
The research group offers access to unique tools in this area by applying expertise from a number of complimentary and essential enabling disciplines.

The primary focus of the group is on the development of smart embedded systems; combining expertise in autonomic computing, embedded computing systems, sensing and control.
Improvements in this specialised class of systems are on offer making them smarter, more flexible, more extensible and field configurable / maintainable.
Policy-based computing techniques enable dynamic reconfiguration of autonomic control logic; supporting customisation and/or self-adaptation.
Central to the offer is the capability for deployment of autonomic systems concepts, context-awareness and learning capabilities into embedded systems.

The group´s longer term vision is based around the improvement of the quality of autonomic computing; specifically the development of techniques which enhance the validation, robustness and trustability of these systems, as well as tools and techniques that simplify the design and development stages of the lifecycle. The development of much-needed standards and techniques for certification of autonomic systems is key to this activity.

Application domains where the techniques on offer are applied include: pervasive healthcare systems, accessibility and support systems for disabled users, environmental and infrastructure monitoring systems, wireless sensor systems, home automation systems, smart security devices and systems, autonomic / distributed control systems, re-configurable diagnostic systems, and autonomous robots.
