Un centro de investigación argentino especializado en fomentar la ciencia y tecnología ha desarrollado un dispositivo para la medición no invasiva de glucosa en sangre en pacientes con diabetes. El dispositivo consiste en un resonador electromagnético que se excita mediante un generador de barrido de frecuencia. La respuesta electromagnética a esta excitación se mide y procesa con algoritmos programados. El centro de investigación busca empresas interesadas en adquirir la tecnología para su desarrollo y explotación mediante acuerdos de licencia, aunque está abierto a otros tipos de colaboración (fabricación o cooperación en materia de investigación).

A research institution from Argentina, dedicated to the promotion of science and technology in this country and abroad, has developed a device for non-invasive blood glucose sensing in patients with diabetes. The Argentine institution is looking for companies acquiring this technology, via license agreement, for its development and exploitation, although the institution is open to other kind of collaboration (Manufacturing agreement and/or Research cooperation).
Description:
Diabetes is a disease in which body is not capable of keeping blood sugar levels within normal limits. It occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces. Diabetes can lead over time to serious damage to the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys, and nerves. About 347 million people worldwide have diabetes.

As a therapy, insulin is delivered to control glucose levels. In consequence, patients routinely monitor their glucose levels. This allows them to evaluate their response to therapy and asses whether glucose targets have been achieved. Glucose monitoring by fingerstick is the most widely used tecnique.

This invention is a device for determining blood glucose concentration without the need of finger sticking. The device consist of an electromagnetic resonator. This resonator is excited using a frecuency sweep generator. The electromagnetic response to this excitation is measured and processed using algorithms programmed within processing electronics.

When a patient puts their finger on the resonator, it´s electromagnetic response changes. By measuring and processing this electromagnetic response the device determines blood glucose concentration.
