Todas las personas implicadas comparten los mismos entornos virtuales y, gracias al uso de diferentes tecnologías, hardware y soluciones, están totalmente inmersos en el mismo escenario al que están llamados a cumplir una misión específica. The University offers this system under commercial agreements with technical assistance, research cooperation agreements and license agreements.
Description:
Large ships manoeuvres in the aim of the entry to or exit from the harbour area can be complex and dangerous operations for several reasons. Indeed, in standard traffic conditions, harbour pilots and port traffic controllers deal with a great number of vessels of different sizes. In addition, manoeuvre and reaction times of vessels are very slow compared to other vehicles especially for large vessels. Indeed, due to their prominent size and mass, in case of mistakes and accidents, large vessels may cause enormous damages. As a matter of facts, simulation based system allows a greater standardization and effectiveness of training procedures.
To this end, the Ship Bridge Simulators is an advanced system that rely on an interoperable simulation based approach and it is made up of a federation of simulators that have been integrated according to the IEEE 1516 High Level Architecture Standard (HLA). In particular, the Training and Exercise System allows both single operator training and cooperative training. Indeed the federation includes three different simulators (the ship simulator, the tugboat simulator and the control tower simulator) that can run stand-alone for single operator training or federated for cooperative training. The Training and Exercise System provides its users with multiple options in terms of training functionalities: different vessels; different marine ports scenarios; tugboat service for supporting maneuverings in the port area; possibilities to change wheatear and marine conditions; multiple training missions (i.e. ship manouvering in the port area with or without tugboat, mooring operations, exiting/entering the port area, etc.); on board instrumentation monitoring and controlling (e.g. Radar, AIS, ECDIS, Conning Information Display, etc.)
The ship and the tugboat simulators include two accurate replica of real ship bridges with rudder wheel, powers controls for main engine, side thrusters, as well as all the main systems used during navigation (i.e. radar, AIS, conning display, etc.). An immersive environment made up of large screen and sound system is also provided to give the sensation to be on board of a real ship.
The Ship Bridge Simulators training system is expected to be used by all the port actors interested (at different levels) by the ships maneuvers in the port area: ship pilots, tugboat pilots, port authority, mooring operators, coast guard, etc.
Current solutions available on the market usually consider both stand-alone and cooperative training; however, such solutions usually consider only the training of the ship bridge crew, or the training of the tugboat pilot, or the training of the personnel working on the land side. The Ship Bridge Simulators is a training system that allows the cooperative training of the ship bridge crew, the tugboat pilot (or crew) and the port traffic controllers working on the ground. All the people involved share the same virtual environments and are fully immersed (by using different technologies, hardware and solutions) in the same scenario where they are called to accomplish a specific mission.
The University is looking for partners that could be interested in acquiring and using this solution under a commercial agreements with technical assistance. Furthermore, the University is still continuing to add new features and functionalities and therefore it is looking for SME, large companies as well as research organizations and universities to set-up new research -Y- development projects also at European Level in the framework of a research cooperation agreement. The University is also looking for international industrial partner and universities that are willing to sign a license agreements. In this case, the partner sought could be interested in the commercial use of the technology or in its further development.
