Una universidad checa ha desarrollado un sistema automático y asequible de calibración de piezas para contorneado radial de precisión, fresado, corte y perforación con aplicación en máquinas CNC de una sola función. El sistema consiste en un sensor preciso de posición o distancia (por ejemplo, sensor láser sin contacto, inclinómetro digital, sonda táctil o cámara) que evalúa el contorno de la pieza. El sistema reconstruye la posición y orientación de la pieza con respecto al sistema de coordenadas de la máquina y calcula la corrección óptima de la trayectoria conforme a la forma deseada del producto final. La universidad busca fabricantes de máquinas-herramientas CNC con el fin de establecer acuerdos de licencia, así como empresas de mecanizado para alcanzar acuerdos comerciales con asistencia técnica.

The university is looking for companies producing CNC machine tools for license agreements and for machining companies interested in commercial agreements with technical assistance
Description:
An essential part of the machining process using modern CNC machine tools is a correct workpiece clamping. Improper adjustment of the workpiece can lead to severe deterioration of machining accuracy or even to damage of the tool and machinery. Traditional method involves manual workpiece adjustment according to position measurements performed by a human operator. This is a time consuming process which requires specific skills and which cannot be used for applications with stringent requirements on machining precision.

The Czech university has developed an automatic workpiece calibration system for automatic evaluation of geometric error of clamped workpiece. The developed system consists of a precise position or distance sensor (e.g. a contactless laser sensor, digital inclinometer, workpiece touch probe or camera) which is used for evaluation of contour of clamped workpiece. The system reconstructs the position and orientation of the workpiece with respect to the machine coordinate system and computes an optimal toolpath correction according to the specified desired shape of the final product. It can be used for workpiece calibration during high-precision radial contouring, milling, cutting or drilling.

The university is looking for following potential partners for cooperation:

1. Companies producing CNC machine tools - this company should be interested into integration of the developed system to own product portfolio of CNC machine tools. Cooperation is envisaged under license agreement. Specification of the license agreement will be negotiated (license fee, etc.).
2. Companies focusing on metalworking - this company should be interested into retrofitting of own CNC machine tools. The Czech research centre will deliver the developed system on the customer request under commercial agreement with technical assistance.
Advantages and Innovations:
The developed system allows significant precision improvement compared to conventional manual clamping correction methods. The automatic procedure eliminates potential errors caused by a human operator and speeds up the clamping process leading to reduction of the non-productive time of the machine.

The automatic workpiece calibration system is more affordable compared to specialized tracking stations or 3D laser scanners due to simpler instrumentation used (only one sensor of position/distance installed on the machine frame or clamped in the tool holder).
