The SME is seeking partnering enterpises who will undertake the commercialisation of the product through a financial, manufacturing or Joint-venture agreement.

Description:
The Greek SME develops and markets hydrogen production systems, primarily from renewable sources, either for industrial use or integrated with fuel cells for Combined Heat and Power (CHP) production.

The offered technology is an innovative heat and power production unit based on hydrogen and fuel cell technology, developed by the Greek SME. The product is multi-fuel, i.e. it can operate with three gaseous fuels, such as natural gas, propane/ liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and biogas. The technology is designed for dual operation, to function either as a stand-alone power system delivering up to 5 kW of electrical power or as a CHP system delivering additionally up to 7 kW as thermal energy. The system can be used either for stationary applications (e.g. telecommunication stations, households and other building) or for mobile applications (boats and trucks for auxiliary power). The system uses a low-temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cell.
The company´s goal is the commercialization of the system during the next 2-3 years. Currently, the system is in a pre-commercial stage and can be considered as advanced prototype demonstrative unit. Such units have been installed and are in operation in various parts of the world.

The company seeks enterprise partners that will undertake the commercialisation of the product through a financial, manufacturing or Joint-venture agreement.

Specifically the Greek SME is seeking:
- a financial agreement with companies who are willing to provide financing for the production and marketing of the technology
- a manufacturing agreement with companies who are willing to undertake the manufacturing and sales of the technology
- a joint venture agreement with companies who are interested in a strategic partnership to further develop and make available the product to the market.
Advantages and Innovations:
A Greek SME has developed a highly innovative and efficient solution for micro heat and power generation, using hydrogen and PEM fuel cells. The product is based on new and novel processes and technologies which have been developed in recent years by the company and have not been commercialized yet. An important novelty of the system is its ability to use alternative fuels like propane/ liquefied petroleum gas, natural gas or biogas.
The product targets decentralized power production, where numerous applications have been identified. The sectors that are mainly focused on are the followings: telecommunications, transportation (trucks and RVs), marine (boats and yachts), households, hospitals, etc.

Main advantages of the system over the products which currently dominate the market, i.e. internal and external combustion engines (ICE and ECE), include:
- higher electrical and overall efficiency (35% and 85% respectively, versus less than 20% and 70%)
- significantly lower maintenance costs
- dramatically reduced emissions (no SOx , very low NOx, much lower CO2)
- very low noise level.

Currently, the market of remote or back-up power generation is served by diesel or gasoline generators which rely on mature and relatively low cost technology. However, current gen-sets offer about half of the electrical efficiency of the developed system and possess important drawbacks such as: high maintenance cost, large amounts of pollutants emissions, vibration and noise. Operational cost of the developed system (with LPG as feeding fuel) is more than 2 times lower than that of a conventional diesel generator, while the latter emits three times more CO2, 170 times more NOx and hydrocarbons. Furthermore, while diesel generators emit large quantities of SOx and particulates (0.17 and 0.4 g/kWh, respectively), the proposed technology does not emit any measurable quantities of these pollutants.
