La principal ventaja del sistema es la capacidad de medir varios parámetros simultáneamente en vez de utilizar un dispositivo especial para medir cada variable. La solución incluye un software para procesar los valores medidos con una interfaz de fácil manejo. Se buscan socios interesados en continuar con la investigación y desarrollo y establecer acuerdos de cooperación técnica e investigación. Además busca empresas de las industrias del metal o instrumentos científicos interesadas en fabricar el sistema mediante acuerdos de licencia.

Introduction to a problem:
Indentation hardness tests are used in mechanical engineering to determine the hardness of a material to deformation. Several such tests exist (e.g. Brinell, Rockwell, Vickers ...); wherein the examined material is indented until an impression is formed. When testing metals, indentation hardness correlates linearly with tensile strength. This relation permits economically important non-destructive testing of bulk metal deliveries with, even hand-held hardness testers.
Industrial companies dealing with production or processing of metallic materials and structures have to verify their mechanical and physical properties. Usually various test devices such as hardness tester, tensile testing machine, impact hammers etc. are utilized.
Testing with the above mentioned devices require preparation of various types of samples. It makes the whole testing process lengthy as well as it deteriorates the test material for further use.

Solution offered:
Companies often encounter problems when delivered material with declared properties does not meet the required parameters. Now they could have a tool for verifying declared parameters at the moment of delivery.
A Czech university has developed an instrumented system for measuring material properties using an indenter penetration based on express testing methods.
The system can be offered as a hand-held device as well as a table-size device (see picture below).
The key advantage of the offered system is ability to measure several parameters simultaneously instead of using a special device for measuring each variable. These variables include Brinell hardness (HB), Vickers hardness (HV), Rockwell hardness (HRC), Tensile strength (Rm); Yield strength (Re); Elastic modulus (E) and strain hardening exponent (n). The solution offered includes software for processing measured values with very simple and user-friendly interface.
The expected utilization of the offered solution might be as follows:
- a quick control of remaining service life of metal structures and materials, which could help with advance planning of new material purchases, facilities repair etc.
- verification of mechanical properties of different engineering materials during their purchase, manufacture or processing
- verification of material quality and parameters directly in production process.

Known competing solutions:
So-called "express methods", where the offered solution belongs, offer utilization of mobile devices for performing quality checks on-site as well as during manufacture and operation. It helps reducing costs and downtime caused by finding defects in serial production.
The main advantage of these solutions is that no damage is done to the tested sample; the system does not require special sample preparation and measurements directly on the construction (assembly) are available as well. Such benefit is not available when using conventional methods of material testing, such as tensile test.
In comparison with competing devices of the same kind (i.e. based on express methods) the offered solution could measure a wider range of variables at once and an estimated retail price is around 40% lower than the closest currently available systems.
No special staff training to operate the device is needed. The solution enables testing any metallic material and the values measured can serve as an input for another computational method. A measurement deviation is up to 10%, which is considered as satisfactory.
