A South East England University has developed a system which offers an enhanced mixing and control of materials properties for use in pharmaceuticals and food ingredients. The system can offer a range of unique material compositions and morphologies which can be tailored and analysed online in a continuous manner (Process Analytical Technology). The University is looking for end users in the Pharmaceutical and food formulation industries to take part in feasibility studies / license the system.
Description:
The University has developed a unique system based on a hot melt extrusion process typically used in the polymer industry but applied in this case applying milder conditions to formulate a range of novel food and pharmaceutical formulations with a particular focus on the control and enhancement of the mixing. This opens the door to libraries of formulations with new properties, offering the opportunity to further enhance and explore the existing materials in new applications and environments. The system also incorporates online analysis techniques such as Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and other tools to closely monitor the material´s composition, morphology and any new bonds as the process takes place.
