The German SME from Lower Saxony is currently involved in the development of a system called electronic towbar, an electronic system for the convoy driving of commercial vehicles on non-public roads. The vehicle at the top of the convoy operates with a driver, the following unmanned vehicles follow within a defined distance between 2 and 8 meters. The max. speed is yet limited to 6 km/h, the company is planning tests with trucks runnig 30 km/h or 80km/h.
The convoy driving of commercial vehicles will help to reduce costs and fuel consumption when it comes to the transportation of large ammounts of material with flexible routes, like large construction sites, surface mining and operations on dumpsites and landfills.
The enterprise is well experiencend in the development of automatisation solutions for commercial vehicles. Yet they have developed solutions to run fork lifters, trucks, heavy load carriers, container carriers and wheel loaders automatically. The company offers different solutions. The systems are based on guide-wires, on optical signals, laser signals, transponders or GPS, depending on the different customer needs.
The systems can be developed for different tasks, examples are:
- automatic transport with forklifts with traceability function;
- automatic operation of container carriers;
- automatic loading of silos by wheel loader;
- operating of trucks with options like loading and unloading of containers, connecting to trailers.
