Un grupo de investigación andaluz ha desarrollado un sistema modular de generación de energía eléctrica cuya implementación se basa en pilas de combustible. Este sistema no genera contaminantes y puede emplearse en zonas remotas y aisladas. El sistema incluye un sistema de control y monitorización para cada módulo que activa/desactiva cada módulo de forma independiente y un controlador general que decide el módulo que debe ser activado o desactivado. Se buscan empresas interesadas en establecer acuerdos de licencia para la producción y explotación del sistema, o compañías y centros de investigación interesados en establecer acuerdos de cooperación técnica, continuar con el desarrollo y mejorar la solución.

An Andalusian research group has developed a clean modular regulated power generation system, whose implementation is based on fuel cell systems. This system generates no associated pollutants and can be used in remote and insulated areas. They are looking for companies interested in license agreements for the production and exploitation of the system or companies and research centres for technical cooperation agreements to further develop and improve the proposed solution.
Description:
Many people in the developed and developing world lack access to sustainable sources of energy and sometimes the cost associated to the generation of electricity in an efficient and sustainable way is too high.
An Andalusian research group has developed a regulated power generation system, modular and without harmful emissions associated based on fuel cell systems.
The most relevant technical specifications are listed below:
1- The system includes a variable number of modules (the number of modules can be adapted accordingly to the user´s needs). These modules are based on PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) fuel cells which produce electricity from the combination of hydrogen and oxygen. Therefore the only sub product associated to the system is water what means that there are no harmful emissions associated to the system and allow the system to supply electrical power along 24 hours/day during 365 days/year.
2- In order to improve the life time of each PEM stack, a cell voltage monitoring system is included.
3- One of the main features of the system is that PEM stacks are cooled by air what means that do not require high hydrogen inlet pressure. Therefore the integration and the system security are easier and allow the reduction in volume, weigh and cost.
4- The system includes a control and monitoring system for each module, so it is possible activate/deactivate each module independently. Moreover there is a general controller which decides what module must be activated or deactivated.
5- The access to the monitoring and control system is on-line

Advantages and Innovations:
The main advantages of the system are the following:
1- The system is built from a number of PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) fuel cells, supplied by at least one hydrogen source. Each module includes a monitoring and control subsystem, so it is possible to activate/deactivate module induividually.
2- Each module can supply a different power value.
3- The monitoring and control subsystem receives electrical signal from each modules like stack voltage, stack current and cell voltage.
4- The monitoring and control system has two levels: the first level aims to control each module (local control) and the second level is responsible for coordinate local controller.
5- The monitoring and control system is on-line accessible.
6- The control and monitoring system distributes homogeneously the operating hours between the modules when the power demand is lower than the maximum power.
7- Each module has a oxygenation/cooling subsystem which supplies oxygen to cathide and air for refrigerate the stack.
8- Each module has a hydrogen subsystem wich is the responsible for hydrogen delivery to stack at ambient pressure.
9- The hydrogen subsystem include a hydrogen purge line.
10- The Electric Power Generation System includes a simulator to reproduce the performance ogf the whole subsystem.

The benefits of using this technology are the following:
1- The system has a competitive price in comparison with another uninterrupted electrical power generation systems.
2- There aren´t t similar systems in the market
3-Tthe system has no harmul emissions associated and the only sub-product is water
