Summary:
An entrepreneur from Moscow specialised in the field of business process automation developed a cost-effective and easy to implement technology of people flows identification and estimation at a given territory.
The technology can be used for automation of marketing research process, estimation of number of contacts in the outdoor advertising, detection of road capacity on-line and for identification of throngs.
The developer seeks partners for licensing agreement or joint venture.
Description:
The proposed system is a network of sensors, which solves the problems of people flows identification in real time, estimation of their density, as well as estimating the number of people at a given territory. This system operates by using the method of passive radiolocation, i.e. detection of radio beacons location.
Today, this problem is solved in following ways:
1. Expert estimation
Shortcomings: expert evaluation might not reflects facts.
2. Video analysis
Shortcomings: people flow is identified only within the visibility area of the camera lenses.
3. Voluntary and regular providing of GPS coordinates
Shortcomings: the data is available only for the place where the volunteer is and if he/she wants to show his/her position.
4. Triangulation: receiving and processing of ping-packets (LUR) from cell phones (GSM) by several receivers with a known position;
Shortcomings:
- at least 3 receivers in the direct visibility are needed;
- high cost of equipment for the ping-packets decryption;
- cell phone can send ping-packets at a insufficient frequency to solve the problem;
- respondents cannot refuse to participate in the poll of their devices.

The proposed technology is contactless. It allows to monitor the existing interfaces that are already used by people: ANT, NFC, BLE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi.

The system gets signals from radio interface to several receivers. Then, the zone of control (i.e the intersection of used receivers coverage) is formed by applying of functions of the set theory to the identifiers obtained from different sensors. That corresponds to the application of the same functions to the sensors coverage areas. Futher, if necessary, the location of respondent is identified by known methods or their combination:
- by intensity of the one signal on several receivers;
- by arrival time of the one signal on several receivers;
- dy arrival angle of the one signal on several receivers.
Application of the set theory functions and installation of additional sensors give a possibility to form and move the control zone both online and after the data collection.

- Owners of commercial properties, shopping centers - the effectiveness of each site;
- Research companies (Gallup, GFK, etc) - automation of the data collection process;
- Advertisers - the number of contacts with the audience;
- Navigation services - identification of traffic jams;
- Marketing companies - the primary data on flows and density.

Advantages and Innovations:

The closest analogues of the system are the RFID technology and the allocation of people flows by the triangulation method. The RFID technology does not form a specific territory with the help of additional sensors, and the triangulation method requires compound equipment to decrypt signals.
The proposed system offers to install additional transceivers in order to expand the area of monitoring. The equipment for the passive radiolocation method (sensor network and radio-interfaces that are already used by people) is cheaper than the equipment for triangulation method due to using of the set theory functions to change and move the control zone, to estimate the number of people on this territory without any change or move of sensors network.
Thus, this system allows to identify the people flows in all circumstances and at any territory by the method, which is more effective than the existing ones and at a cost that is lower than that of analogues due to the ease of application and the use of many beacons.
