The front electric self-launch and sustainer uses an electric motor that powers a small propeller integrated into the front part of the fuselage of a glider aircraft. The electric motor enables the glider to take off with its own power and maintain altitude once in flight. Commercial agreement with technical assistance or technical cooperation is sought.
Description:
The self-launch systems enable glider aircraft to take off under their own power, without the use of an aerotow or a winch, while sustainer enables the glider to remain airborne when encountering unfavourable gliding conditions. This gives a glider aircraft the autonomy to perform flights that would otherwise not be possible.

While self-launch and sustainer systems are in use for some time, most of them use propeller masts that affect the performance and induce drag. With the position in front of the fuselage these problems are minimized.

The front electric self-launch or sustainer for glider aircraft consists of a brush-less direct current (DC) electric motor, fold-able propeller, control unit instruments and battery packs. The design of the components is such, that they are small and compact in order to take as little space in the fuselage of a glider aircraft as possible. The light carbon fibre fold-able propeller opens upon the rotation commencing. The propeller is folded when the gliding part of the flight starts, thus producing no additional drag.

The brush-less DC electric motor was developed by the company and is designed with weight and size reduction in mind, while providing the necessary performance and reliability. The electric motor produces 20KW of continuous power at 118V and up to 23KW at shorter time intervals.

The system functions as either a self-launch or sustainer depending on the weight of the glider. Heavier glider aircraft use the system only as a sustainer, while lighter glider aircraft can self-launch. The performance and autonomy of glider aircraft equipped with front electric self-launch or sustainer is improved and enables gliding when conditions would otherwise prevent it.

The company has years of experience in glider related manufacturing. They are working closely with many of the glider producers that use their system in implementation to existing models or when designing new models of gliders with self-launch and sustainer capability.
