Este método utiliza un sistema de filtración vertical de dos fases para limpiar aguas subterráneas en una planta a gran escala y ahorra más costes que los métodos convencionales. La tecnología no produce olores, ruidos ni emisiones y puede adaptarse para tratar diferentes compuestos orgánicos. El centro busca socios con el fin de establecer acuerdos de cooperación técnica, servicio y comercialización con asistencia técnica.

The German Institution is one of the world´s leading research centres in the field of environmental research, enjoying high social recognition. It demonstrates ways in which a sustainable use of our natural resource base is possible for the benefit of both mankind and the environment. The German centre for environmental research developed an eco-technological cleaning method for the remediation of groundwater contaminated with BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes) and MTBE (methyl tert-butyl ether). This method uses a two-stage vertical filter system for cleaning groundwater in a large-scale facility and convinces with huge cost savings as compared to conventional methods.
With the discovery and characterisation of bacteria which can biologically degrade MTBE and benzene as a basis, a nature-like method has been developed to remediate contaminated groundwater more efficiently, economically and ecologically. Successful collaboration with local partners has brought the product to commercial maturity and it is ready for full-scale application. The two-stage biological process consists of a coarse vertical filter (Roughing Filter) and a fine vertical filter (Polishing Filter). These vertical soil filters consist of several layers of granular filter materials (grain size: coarse to fine). They are supplied with pulses of groundwater contaminated with MTBE, BTEX and other substances from the top and flows through vertically to the bottom of each filter.
The research centre is looking for partners for commercial agreements with technical assistance, service and technical cooperation agreements. The aim is to transfer this eco- friendly technology to other countries.
