Description:
A Spanish university is offering a prototype for aeronautic sector consisting in an hardware-software system for automatic estimation of the load and its distribution, before and during the flight, with application in medium and light aircrafts. The system automatically measures the weight and balance of the load inside. This allows to place loads properly and ensure flight stability.

Before starting any flight, every aircraft must undergo a precise control of the gross weight and the centre of gravity, considering the number of passengers on board, where they sit and how the load is placed in transit the hold, as well as the fuel level. All this information helps to ensure that the aircraft is not unbalanced, avoiding problems during takeoff and landing. Nowadays, the existing automatic systems, designed for heavy commercial aircrafts, are specifically intended for each model. There are not systems for medium or light ships with a good balance between cost and effectiveness/efficiency.

The proposed solution is simple and intuitive: once the passengers and the load are on the aircraft, the system just needs the data of fuel load in the tank, to perform calculations and indicate if there is any unbalance in the ship. The system includes hardware elements: electronic instrumentation and mobile communications, as well as software for calculations, and it is designed to be compatible with different models of aircrafts. The system offers a standard and introduces a totally new approach to the weight and balance measurement in medium and light aircrafts, which can be customized with the software. The system is already adapted to several solutions through private research and it can be adapted to other existing solutions and specific needs.

The research group that has designed and developed this prototype comprehends wide expertise in telecommunications, systems engineering and control, industrial and automatic electronics. The team comprises engineers and doctors cooperating as associated editor and reviewer in indexed Journals related with this topic, having also work experience in private company and in research institutions, as experts on international cooperation, European research projects, business strategy and aircraft pilot.

The solution is at prototype level, available for demonstrations and in patent process, with possibility for international extension. Drawing, pictures or samples can be provided with Non-Disclosure Agreement throughout further exchanges.

The University is looking for industrial and business partners interested in license agreement and offers technical cooperation for the upscaling, operational testing and evaluation of the solution to become a commercial product.
