Un grupo de investigación italiano ha desarrollado un dispositivo integrado para monitorizar y gestionar el consumo energético en viviendas inteligentes que reduce los costes energéticos. Este sistema, basado en un modelo de arquitectura centralizada, permite al usuario final seleccionar los controles automáticos mediante interfaces de fácil manejo y optimizar flujos de energía. Una unidad de control central permite la interconexión e interoperabilidad de diferentes electrodomésticos, sensores y actuadores dentro del hogar. La conexión entre la unidad de control central y los electrodomésticos se realiza mediante una serie de dispositivos periféricos conectados a los electrodomésticos. Se buscan socios interesados en continuar con el desarrollo del sistema.

Description:
Information and communication technologies allow houses to become a collaborative smart environment, a place where multimedia services are provided while heterogeneous smart appliances are interconnected and interact. This permits to save energy, to reduce costs and, at the same time, to improve comfort and safety.
The Italian researchers have developed a smart home energy management system that consists in a software framework which is integrated with a hardware device.
The system is able to monitor, manage, control, optimize the building's energy use. The system allows the end-users to set automatic controls via user-friendly interfaces and optimize energy flows.
The intelligent home energy management system is based on a centralized architecture model. A central control unit represents the data aggregation gateway and the decision making core of the system, allowing the interconnection and the interoperability of different home appliances, sensors and actuators within a smart home environment.
The communication between the central control unit and the existing heterogeneous home appliances is achieved by the use of a set of smart peripheral devices connected to appliances, called smart plugs. In particular, these smart peripheral devices carry out the monitoring of the energy consumption and the managing of the activation/deactivation of the connected electrical appliances.
Moreover, the central control unit communicates with a smart box, which carries out the monitoring of the overall energy consumption in the considered home environment. The smart box is able to integrate the energy supplied by the power grid with the energy provided by a local cogeneration system and/or a local energy storage system, and is also able to manage the charging of the latter.
The system is easy to use thanks to mobile apps and a web interface that allow monitoring activities through smartphones, remote devices and PC.
