Un grupo de investigación italiano ha desarrollado un sistema basado en holografía digital en la región de infrarrojo medio para reconstruir la imagen completa de objetos ocultos entre el humo y las llamas. Este sistema tiene aplicación potencial en incendios y monitorización del humo y llamas durante procesos industriales. El prototipo del sistema está patentado. El grupo de investigación busca socios con el fin de establecer acuerdos de fabricación, licencia, cooperación o comercialización con asistencia técnica y financiación. Los socios buscados son principalmente empresas interesadas en implementar el sistema en sus líneas de producción, instituciones de protección civil, cuerpos de bomberos, organismos implicados en la monitorización, prevención de desastres industriales, incendios, etc.

Summary:
An Italian Research group has developed a system, based on Mid-infrared digital holography to reconstruct the whole image of objects hidden by smoke and flames. The system has potential in fire conditions and in monitoring smoke and flames during industrial processes. The system is currently a patented prototype. The group is searching for manufacturing agreements, license, commercial agreements with technical assistance or technical cooperation agreements. Financial agreements are sought too.
Description:
A Holographic system to see through smoke and flames has been developed by an Italian Institute of research committed in research in the field of optics. The research group has a long expertise in Mid infrared digital Holography.
Indeed, the developed system is based on Mid-infrared digital holography and is able to reconstruct the image of human-size objects hidden by smoke and flames.
The technology is an interferometric imaging technique based on lens-less digital holography in the Mid infrared range. Thanks to the peculiarities of lens-less digital holography and to the long wavelength of the employed coherent radiation, the system is able to produce images of human-size objects completely hidden by smoke and flames.
This technology might be used to support firefighters in case of fire or be inserted in industrial factories with processes involving furnaces or ovens, to monitor smokes and flames.
Currently the system is a prototype available for demonstration and the group is looking for industrial partners interested to support and/or finance the research and to develop and test a commercial device.
In the detail, desired cooperations are:
· Manufacturing agreements with industrial partners able to develop the device and test the system in real conditions;
· Commercial agreements with technical assistance with industrial partners interested to implement the device in their production line with the know-how support of the research group;
· License agreements with partners interested to commercialise the patented system in return of a royalty;
· Technical cooperation agreements with both industrial and research partners to further develop the prototype with the aim to explore other applications.
· Financial agreements are sought too to finance further research and applications
The partners searched for cooperation are above all companies who are interested to implement the system in their production line; private or public research bodies interested to further support the research and adapt the research to other applications or governmental authorities, such as civil protection institutions or fire departments, committed in monitoring, prevention of industrial disasters, fires, etc..
Advantages and Innovations:
This technology is, according to literature and prior art analysis, the only one able to see objects hidden by smoke and flames.
Up to now, only the thermal imagers are used to see through smoke but they cannot see through flames because the sensors are saturated by the radiation coming from the flames. The holographic method allows to work without focusing optical component and, thus, it is the only system which makes it possible to see beyond flames.
Moreover, differently from known visible or thermographic acquisition systems, the holographic system allows to reconstruct the image of the whole object, with no blind areas.

· In the framework of manufacturing agreements, commercial agreements with technical assistance and license agreements the ideal type of partners sought are industrial partners in the field of Laser Manifacturers and Thermo Camera Manifacturers, Electronics and Fire Safety instrumentation producers, or manufacturers of blast furnaces, steelmakers, metal melting furnaces, floating glass production, homeland security, and foundries.
Other industrial partners should be searched in the high temperature manufacturing (steel, glass, metals, etc) where a monitoring through flames of the production processes has never been achieved. Finally, governmental bodies such as civil protection institutions or fire departments are expected to adopt the technology within
· In the perspective of technical cooperation agreements both industrial and research partners are sought to further develop the prototype with the aim to explore other applications.
· Cooperation with financial institutions, or business angels is desired to finance additional research for developing and testing a commercial device.
