Un equipo de investigación español del sector de ingeniería civil ha desarrollado una unidad de construcción resistente al agua y aislante para construir cubiertas transitables. Esta unidad de pequeñas dimensiones permite construir cubiertas planas y, por lo tanto, no necesita pendientes para evacuar el agua de lluvia. El sistema consta de varios componentes industrializados pequeños fáciles de manejar e instalar por una sola persona. Estos componentes se adaptan perfectamente a cubiertas ortogonales de diferentes geometrías. El equipo de investigación busca empresas del sector de la construcción con el fin de establecer acuerdos de licencia para desarrollar aplicaciones de la tecnología.

Modular roof tile system for the construction of flat trafficable roofs
Summary:
A Spanish research group working in construction engineering has developed a waterproofing and insulation construction unit that allows to build trafficable roofs. Such unit has small dimensions and, as it allows to build flat roofs, slopes will not be required to evacuate rainwater. Companies operating in the building sector are sought for license agreements to develop applications of this technology.
Description:
The current trafficable roofs for buildings (flat, asphalt-prepared roofs that provide protection against heavy foot traffic) are generally composed of a series of supporting elements, with a separation that allows the circulation of water between them, and on which grids are provided to allow the drainage of rainwater towards the evacuation channels. However, such systems do not serve as means of waterproofing and insulation of a roof, being then more suitable to cover terraces, and often present problems of assembly, maintenance and duration.

Researchers from a Spanish university working in construction engineering have developed a unit for the construction of trafficable roofs that comprises few parts which can even be manufactured in steel:

- A base insulating panel.
- A fixing support, which sustains and is fixed on the support structure of the roof.
- A tray that is mounted on the fixing support.
- A grid, which is mounted on the tray, covering it.
- A collector, in which the tray pours, that is placed between said tray and the fixing support and is mounted on said support.

The technology is applicable in those sectors in which construction systems or materials are designed, manufactured, produced, used or constructed, for example in the building sector or in the various manufacturing industries.

The university is a public institution oriented to education, research and technology transfer. However, it is not one of its capacities or goals to manufacture industrial products or distribute them commercially. Therefore, the researchers would like to reach license agreements with companies working in the building sector to develop applications of the described technology.
Advantages and Innovations:
· The system is formed by several small industrialized components, easy to handle and assemble by just one person.

· It can be wholly manufactured in several materials such as metal, plastic or composites using industrial production methods.

· Green technology: water collection efficiency is higher than in other systems, such as traditional tiles, allowing to recycle rainwater for many uses.

· It allows to maintain watertightness and global isolation, as it is resistant to different meteorological events (wind, snow) or overloads.

· These industrialized components present great adaptability to different geometries of orthogonal roofs.

· Its general use is intended for all types of buildings.

· The roof built with the units of the invention is trafficable and allows easy maintenance.
