Selective permeability of the membrane allows increasing sensitivity of portable analyzer up to 6 orders. The company is looking for partners for joint development of series of industrial membrane inlet systems and/or portable mass spectrometers.
Description:
The company has developed inlet systems with precise quantitative sample dosage. Membrane systems' interface decreases the detection limits for certain compound classes by means of selective properties of membrane's material. The construction of membranous injector with piezoelectric flow regulating valve allows easy automation of the dosage of substances injected into a mass-spectrometer and, thus, can be successfully applied in portable devices.
Besides, the company offers a technique for detecting gases and volatile organic compounds (VOC) in liquid and gas samples by portable mass-spectrometer using the inlet system described above. The technique can be applied to solve specific tasks and carry out scientific research in the fields of ecology, medicine, criminal investigation, geologic exploration for the purposes of safety ensurance and monitoring of technological processes.
The specific advantages of portable mass-spectrometer are, first of all, in-situ express-analysis and on-line monitoring in the field and extreme conditions. The limits of weight and size of devices lead to significant decrease of sensitivity. The offered technique using the developed membrane inlet systems allows considerable decreasing of the detection limits of VOCs and toxic compounds contained in the samples and certain gases by portable mass-spectrometers.


Current and Potential Domain of Application: The developed membrane inlet systems are offered primarily as component parts to be used at constructing and developing portable mass-spectrometer complexes by manufacturing companies.

Such portable mass-spectrometer systems are widely and actively used by ecological services, criminalist and court agencies, field geologic exploration services and security control services.

Advantages and Innovations:

An original design solution includes a buffered idle volume between membrane and sample inlet system. A springless type of piezoelectric flow regulating valve provides fast hermetization of vacuum part of the analytic device and precise regulation of the sample flow.

Compared to its analogues, the offered inlet system has a number of advantages:
- flowing design type excludes the memory effect of the system,
- small buffer idle volume decreases the loading on vacuum pumps,
- springless design type of flow regulating valve ensures reliability of leak valve operations,
- effective combination with membrane's interface.
Other features, such as potential flow range or possibility to work at room temperature are similar.
The offered inlet system is complemented by the developed and tested technique of measurement by the portable mass-spectrometer. The membrane interface allows conducting direct measurement by portable mass-spectrometer without prior sample preparation.
