Un instituto de investigación búlgaro ha desarrollado un escáner óptico en 2D automático para visualización de irregularidades estructurales en superficies sólidas. Se trata de un sistema sencillo y económico que permite la detección de defectos mecánicos, cambios en las características eléctricas de la superficie, estados de la superficie, composición química y presencia de impurezas. El sistema, que permite investigar y controlar procesos en distintas superficies en tiempo real, se ha diseñado para caracterizar superficies de todo tipo de materiales mediante radiación con un haz láser modulado e inducción del efecto de fotocarga de la superficie. El método es sensible, no destructivo y fácil de implementar. El instituto de investigación busca socios con el fin de establecer acuerdos de servicio.

The system is simple, non-expensive and allows detection of: mechanical defects, changes in surface electrical characteristics, surface states, chemical composition, the presence of impurities. This method is sensitive, non-destructive, and easy for implementation and could be used in non-destructive technology. The team seeks for service agreement.
Description:
The prototype for demonstration of the systems for visualization of irregularities on surfaces developed in the Bulgarian research institute is available. This system is designed for surface characterization of all kinds of materials through irradiation with a modulated laser beam and induction of the surface photo-charge effect. This effect is represented by small voltage, detected in all kinds of materials, when illuminated by an electromagnetic field. The system allows detection of: mechanical defects, changes in surface electrical characteristics (for example, conductivity), surface states, chemical composition, the presence of impurities, etc. It also allows processes on different surfaces to be investigated and controlled in real time.
No single instrument exists, which is capable of detecting such a large variety of structural irregularities. Currently, the developed system can be used to perform 2-dimensional scans of solid surfaces. They have the potential to be upgraded, so that 3-dimensional scans can be performed by penetration at a certain depth inside the material´s surface by changing the wavelength of the scanning beam.
The institute seeks cooperation in the form of service agreement for all who would like to use this system for research in exchange of payment, or would like to buy such a system for specific purposes for themselves.
Advantages and Innovations:
The advantage of the scanning system is that it gives extensive information for various kinds of surfaces. It complements the range of scanning devices, such as Scanning electron microscopy and Tunneling electron microscopy, since it covers larger areas of several centimeters squared. Modifications can be made to our system, so that it can scan larger or smaller areas. It is automated, easy to operate with, does not require special conditions, such as vacuum, and no special preparation of the sample is needed.
