This system is able to efficiently reduce the luminous flux of lamps by reducing the voltage According to the researchers, this new system is strong and efficient and hardly needs any maintenance. Its size, weight and cost are lower than the systems used today based on power electronics.

Energy efficiency is a priority in a society that increases energy demand because of its technological advances. Besides, street lighting represents the 50% of power consumption of any city council. Therefore, the challenge to optimize energy consumption of public lighting systems is a priority.

In order to meet the requirements of the latest energy efficiency of public lighting regulation, the design of this system is based on the combination of diverse electromagnetic elements allowing to efficiently reduce the luminous flux of lamps by reducing the voltage.The configuration provides two charge voltage levels depending on the position of the contactor, activated by means of a control system.

This equipment offers an effective system for regulating luminous flux in public lighting installations and therefore is an efficient procedure for saving electrical energy. This equipment has been designed to optimise public lighting installations, which are normally designed for gas discharge lamps of the type high pressure sodium, high pressure mercury vapour, metallic halogen, fluorescent, etc.
