Visualization, simulation, and data analysis have become the principal means of understanding vast data set in industry, engineering as well as sciences. Industry and engineering innovation in almost every discipline has been revolutionized through the use of highly details and accurate digital representations of physical objects. The challenge of future businesses is the interpretation and visualization of massive volumes of digital data.

An Austrian SME specialized in computer science has developed a software solution to visualise and operate big data sets (spatio-temporal) with applications in the field of land/environmental surveying. Spatio-temporal data contains both space (distance, direction, shape, etc.) and time (occurrence time, duration, occurrence before or after other events, etc.) information. As a flexible general software framework with the ability to handle large amounts of data (e.g. 50 TB of Lidar data), the technology can be customized and combined to work with any data acquisition hardware device or method used to collect data (i.e. observational or computational). Examples of data acquisition hardware devices include a variety of technologies such as LiDAR, CT, MRI or sonar technology, GPS, GIS systems and more.

The 3D high resolution visualisation is used in geology, geodesy, geomatics, geomorphology, laser altimetry but also in industrial and engineering applications. Typical market application addressed by the technology is environmental surveying assessed by public authorities.
In addition to the traditional fields of application, the software is applicable for the processing and visualization of medical 3d imaging or CT (computer tomography) data in manufacturing or logistic processes.
