Las ventajas del sistema incluyen visualización 3D simultánea de varios grupos de datos en un solo proyecto en sistemas de coordenadas separados, posibilidad de aislar datos innecesarios, modelización de 10 métodos de visualización diferentes y 4 tecnologías de visualización en estéreo. Description:
A Russian University team developed a software suite for interactive visualization of 3D biomedical and scientific data. The system is a cross-platform C++ application which uses OpenGL (cross-platform graphics standard) and GLSL (cross-platform graphics processing units programming language) for 3D data processing and rendering with the use of graphics processing units (GPU). The initial source of data is a tomographic image in DICOM format or a 3D data array. To improve the performance of ray tracing procedure, early termination of ray tracing and empty space skipping are used. In addition to the standard bounding box, the user has a more flexible tool, the so-called limiting 3D grid. The developed software system provides joint interactive visualization of 16-bit data with 512x512x512 voxels size on a GPU. The software system can be used with anaglyph, special 3D displays and passive 3D glasses for interlaced stereo, or stereo projector/monitor with alternate-frame sequencing glasses.
During visualization, the user can choose more than 10 different tracing methods, modeling various investigation types. Visualization process occurs in real-time, i.e. 10 (and usually more) frames per second. The software system differs form the analogs available on the market by higher performance, rational memory usage, ability to visualize up to 4 sets of 3D data in one box (the sets are in different coordinate systems, for example tomograms of several types: CT, NMR, PE etc.). Simultaneous operation with 3D visualizations, generated with the use of various methods, is possible (the number of such methods can be increased according to the needs of the user). Noise filtering and tricubic interpolation of the initial data options are available, which increases the image quality considerably. General personal computer skills are sufficient to operate the software system.
