Description:
The institution is part of a German institute for applied research working in the field of energy management. Its experts have worked in several national and international research projects and are interested in finding new partners, applications, and projects in the energy management sector.

The mentioned tools have been used mainly in the field of building energy management where significant amounts of energy can be saved by means of intelligent optimization based predictive control. However, these methods are not restricted to that particular application but can be used in other processes with high energy demand. Significant improvements and energy (resp. cost) savings can be expected in one (or more) of the following situations:
· Time variant energy prices or temporally limited (renewable) energy sources
· Slow dynamics of the considered process (e. g. floor heating or thermally activated building systems (TABS))
· Usage of energy storage devices (Batteries, Buffer Tanks)
· Highly time variant disturbances
· Variable efficiency of considered energy production/conversion (e. g. dependency on internal process variables)
· Wide allowed range of control variables

In addition, in many applications an improved control performance, compared to conventional control algorithms (e. g. PID controllers) can be expected.
The institute offers cooperation in a bilateral partnership as follows:
· Analyse and visualise partner process data and roughly evaluate your saving potentials
· Develop an advanced control concept considering the specific needs of the partner
· Develop a process/system model for control purposes with data-based empirical modelling techniques (timeseries analysis/system identification) and/or first principles physical modelling
· Evaluate the saving potential by means of simulation
· Implement and test an advanced control algorithm (e. g. model predictive control)

The institute is looking for an industry partner from a sector with in-depth motivation in development of energy management systems by means of intelligent control. This interest can stem from e. g.:
· High cost of the considered process, due to e. g. high energy consumption or high peak loads
· Interest in extended lifetime or reduction of wear of the process components

The considered partner should be able to provide process data such as measurement data, datasheets, physical parameters of the considered process or system.

Cooperation is envisaged as technical cooperation, license, research cooperation agreement and/or commercial agreement with technical assistance.
Advantages and Innovations:
The proposed offer is based on advanced optimisation- based control strategies which can save significant amounts of energy (resp. costs), reduce wear and extend lifetime in many applications. In contrast to rule based or classical control methods such as PID (proportional-integral-derivative)-control these methods have the following advantages:
· Online minimisation of an application specific criterion (e. g. monetary cost, energy demand, peak load, switching cycles etc.)
· Consideration of time varying constraints and environmental variables (e. g. weather conditions, energy prices, ...)
· Explicit consideration of future process behaviour by model-based predictions
· Superior control performance by explicit consideration of process disturbances

Partner sought

Type and Role of Partner Sought:
Industrial partners are sought who have strong interest in the application of intelligent control systems. This interest can stem from the need to save energy costs, reduction of wear or extend lifetime of the considered system or process. The partner should thus bring a possible application (e. g. hardware demonstrator with high energy throughput) or a specific problem that can be addressed by means of intelligent control of that application. Simulation based studies are possible as well.
For the purpose of modelling the partner needs to provide necessary system resp. process information such as measurement or construction data, physical parameters and/or datasheets of the considered process.

Commercial agreement with technical assistance:
The institute offers the transfer of the software tools and the developed models to optimise building energy system/ energy intense system processes to industrial partners. Assistance during commissioning will be provided.

License agreement:
The institute offers the license for the respective solution and is looking for licensees.

Research cooperation agreement:
The institute is also looking for partners in funded research projects.


Technical cooperation agreement:
Partners are welcome to further develop the respective solution and to continue jointly.
