The Greek SME was established in 2009 and is specializing in Information -Y- Communication technologies (ICT). It provides highly demanded solutions and business services covering a number of activities, in the fields of Long range Communications (WiMAX, LTE, standards for wireless communications), Short range Communications (WSN - Wireless Sensor Network, M2M - Machine to Machine, IoT - Internet of Things) and Future Internet. The company is one of the leading manufacturers of IoT systems in Greece. Company´s goal is to provide an ecosystem that can integrate all Smart City applications in one platform (lighting, waste management, information boards, proximity -Y- parking sensors, irrigation systems etc). As a result, the Greek company provides the core backbone for a Smart City infrastructure based on a complete outdoor smart lighting solution.
Company´s solutions are designed in order to merge the conventional M2M world with the emerging IoT world using standards-based approach with strong focus on industrial and semi-industrial applications. These solutions address system/solution integrators and OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer). Particularly an integrator gets all necessary wireless communication modules and modular software components that enable him to interconnect and manage any type of sensor/actuator, increasing his client´s productivity. In other words any OEM can make his products smart through appropriately attached controlling hardware.
The solution converts a lamp post into a smart one, enabling both the remote control of its luminous flux and the reception of real-time alerts in case of any fault (example: a broken lamp). The system is compatible with conventional or LED lights, fixed or dimmable. The system is intended for outdoor lighting in public or private road lighting, architectural lighting, projectors, security lights, large installations in ports, factories, warehouses etc
The system is continuously monitoring the lighting conditions of the environment and adjusts the intensity of light accordingly. The communication between the lamp posts is performed wirelessly using Mesh Network Technology (A mesh network is a network topology in which each node relays data for the network. All mesh nodes cooperate in the distribution of data in the network). The system is monitored and controlled through dedicated software (cloud based), also provided. It is possible to control each lamp according to user needs. Automation rules can be applied, to support the dimming feature of the lights. It is also possible to group lamp posts forming sectors dynamically. The system is able to detect motion and automatically provides more intensity of light where and when needed. For safety reasons, lights are dimmed constantly in low level. The solution is also FIWARE (a middleware platform, driven by the European Union, for the development and global deployment of applications for Future Internet) enabled making possible the smooth integration into already operating Smart Cities under this framework.
The Greek company is looking for commercial agreements with technical assistance. Potential collaborators will be companies that work with outdoor lighting and Smart City integrators. Also, public authorities are sought. The purpose of the collaboration is the installation of the system. The Greek company could also see the opportunity to collaborate with other companies for the co-development of a Smart City solution, employing the Greek technology for controlling the lighting.
