Un laboratorio francés especializado en micro y nanoelectrónica ha desarrollado una solución que permite encender dispositivos electrónicos desconectados de forma remota en modo de espera de cero vatios mediante el uso de un haz de microondas. La tecnología bajo patente puede licenciarse. Al evitar el consumo de energía residual de los dispositivos electrónicos en modo de espera, se ahorran 14 millones de toneladas de emisiones de CO2 al año. El laboratorio busca socios con el fin de licenciar el uso o establecer acuerdos de cooperación técnica e I+D.


Zero energy consumption standby mode solution for electronic components
A French laboratory has developed a solution allowing remote switch-on of disconnected electronic devices in zero Watt standby mode, using a microwave beam. The technology is under patent and could be licensed. By removing the residual energy consumption for electronics devices in standby mode, at European Level, a saving of 14 million tons of CO2 emissions per year can be made. The laboratory is seeking agreements with new partners to license the use or for a technical/R-Y-D cooperation.
A French research team specialized in micro and nano electronics is developing electronics energy efficient solutions since 2005. They created a prototype that was presented at different French workshops and was shown on French television few years ago. Their technology is based on simplicity, on easy use and it is dedicated to a large public.
This prototype removes the residual energy consumption for electronics devices in standby mode, hence several KWh could be saved by device per year. This would represent an economy of 14 million tons of CO2 emissions per year at European level (source: UEC). The technology allows to remotely switch-on disconnected electronic devices in a zero Watt standby mode, using microwave beam.
The product substitutes to the "traditional" infrared remote control, limited to data transfer, thanks to a brand new system also able to send energy through a beam in order to activate a power supply switch. Technically, microwave beam is received and converted to a DC voltage level by a high sensitive rectenna (Rectifying Antenna). The level of emitted microwave energy is very low and thus not hazardous for users.
That energy wakes up a self-supply circuit, which is able, later on, to decode a data burst, in order to execute the device power switch-on order. The electronic schematic of the invention includes an energy receiver, a demodulation stage and a local power storage system.
The laboratory is looking for agreements with new partners for :
- Using the current products and protototypes under a license
- Improving the prototypes and the global technology through technical or R-Y-D cooperation

· The remote control is working over distances of tens of meters, leveraging domestic and/or industrial applications: long distance activation

The first prototypes allow the possibility to have an electronic device in stand by mode without consumption of energy and able to be activated quickly.
