Tittle:
A French large company proposes a fast -Y- simple joining/jointing technique for continuous roll to roll manufacturing processes in construction industry through license agreements or technical cooperation
Summary:
A French large company is offering a joining/jointing technique for sheets and panels (plastic mainly) made by continuous processes. The technique is patented. It can be fully automated and includes no additionnal material for junction. It doesn´t affect recycling properties of the materials and it is compabtible with fibre or thermoplastic films incorporation.
They are looking for partners willing to use the technique under a licence agreement, or to go for further research cooperation.
Description:
The R-Y-D department of the French large company developed a new process aiming to simplify junction techniques between plastics sheets/panels.
Their technology is based on butt-joining methods for processes involving continuous films. The usual technique relies on joining, by a reinforced adhesive tape, the end of a roll with the beginning of the following roll. However, this technique is often manual and tedious, plus, a long film portion along the junction cannot be exploited and is usually thrown.
The proposed technology is the cutting out of the opposite-facing ends of two sheets of material to create tabs and cut-outs on each end.
Proportions and shapes of these tabs and cut-outs are optimized to guarantee a mechanical assembly. After mechanically interlocking these tabs and cut-outs the two strips or panels are joined by pressing or hot pressing the spliced areas thus obtaining a single homogeneous joint of the same thickness without adding any additional material.
They are searching for SMEs (with relevant R-Y-D and financial resources), mid-caps or large companies interested to test the technique/or integrate it in their own industrial processes through technical cooperation or willing to exploit this technology under a license agreement.
Advantages and Innovations:
This technique provides interesting benefits:
- a continuous thickness of the joined sheets or panels, no additional materials at the junction.
- the recycling properties of the joined materials are unchanged.
- it can be fully automated.
- it is compatible with materials incorporating fibres or thermoplastic films.
- a thickness of the joined sheets up to 3mm.
Stage of Development:
Prototype available for demonstration
IPs:
Patents granted
CommeR Statunts Regarding IPR Status:
- Working prototype. tested on heterogeneous PVC flooring products with 1mm to 3mm thickness.
- European Granted patent.
- Know how.
