Description:
Due to the increasing number of decentralized power feeders, such as photovoltaic installations and wind power stations, it becomes more and more difficult to keep up the stability of the power grid. For power feeders in low- and medium voltage power grid the ohmic part of the impedance gains more influence than in the transport grid.

The coupling of frequency and voltage to active and reactive power can be completely inverted compared to the common droop control. A German university solves the problem of droop control for decentralized power feeders in low- and medium voltage grids with an adaptive grid impedance droop control. This technology is equipped with an impedance dependent static function and provides droop control in a general form. The power feeding can be adapted to changing grid impedances and to other requirements from the transport grid. Thus the technology helps to stabilize the grid and to avoid black-outs. The efficiency of the power feeding can be improved significantly by avoiding down-times of the power feeders. It is thus of advantage to any inverter connected to the power grid.
