This new method allows to simplify the process of bone substitution and repair as well as use the material in 3D printing. The company is looking for commercialization partners or licensees under a commercial agreement with technical assistance or a license agreement.
Description:
This Lithuanian SME, established in 2013, has been in close cooperation with a Faculty of Chemistry of one of Lithuanian universities since its inception and has obtained several patent rights in return for its investment services. The new offered method for manufacturing calcium hydroxyapatite nanocrystals is among these patented technologies.

Calcium hydroxyapatite is similar to the non-organic parts of bone tissue by showing similar chemical and physical properties, therefore, its use in the production of skeletal implants and in odontology is very promising. This invention allows to produce calcium hydroxyapatite nanocrystals of the desired morphology and size, making it easier to implement in the treatment of skeletal disorders.

By using this method, it becomes possible to control the size of crystals from 20 nanometers to 3 micrometers as well as control the crystal shape - plane, needle-like, spherical, and others. It is achieved by controlling the nature, concentration, and ratio of complex-forming reagents.

The company is looking for skeletal and odontology implant users and manufacturers - partners that would be interested in obtaining patent rights or to use this method for a share of royalties under a commercial agreement with technical assistance or a license agreement.
Advantages and Innovations:
Typical bone implants are made of alloplastic materials or by repositioning the bones of the patient himself. This technology allows to create a nanostructured calcium hydroxyapatite bone-like material with controlled crystal morphology - a property that is not achieved with other methods for creating calcium hydroxyapatite. The shape of the bone implant can be 3D printed. With controlled size and morphology of the crystals the material can be used for restoration of differently damaged bone tissue, the structure of which may depend on age, gender and other factors.
