All returnable transport items such as pallets, roll cages, tea crates, semi trailers and steel stillages are mislaid, stolen or lost in many industries across Europe which adds up to a huge cost to the industries involved.

The UK SME here has developed a system with a large logistics business which appears to be unique and can show where every asset is in real time with substantially improved efficiencies and at reduced cost when compared to other solutions on the market.
 
The number of returnable items in Europe in continuous use is in the tens of millions and if they are not available to the logistics company or manufacturer in good time the systems fail. The cost to most companies to continually replace such items affects the bottom line and causes major issues with timed deliveries. The system described here provides real time stocks in all locations and for those also in transit.

The UK systems development company which provides a service using specialist hardware and software developed in house offers a turnkey solution which has been tested with large businesses for a number of years to improve efficiency, increase productivity and reduce waste. Very few companies in the market supply the whole solution with patents for each component part.

The UK SME has developed technology that combines RFID, low power GPS (global positioning system), low power mobile data and a micro electronic machine (MEM) digital accelerometer, without altering the battery life of the RFID tag which makes it possible to determine if a RFID tag, and the asset it is fixed to is moving or is stationary at the time it is transmitting and in range of the RFID reader.

For example, the system could tell if a trailer was parked at a distribution centre, and had been stationary for hours, or if it had been moving around the yard. It could also keep a record of the time it was in motion and this could apply to pallets or roll cages to see if they are just being stored in the yard or what period of the day they are actually being used for picking up goods.

The system can also be used to determine which RFID tag and asset is being delivered to a customer or location. When the truck is stationary, all the cages are being read and none are moving, when an asset is moved for a delivery only the specific cage under delivery will report movement, the others will report stationary.

The system offers benefits over existing solutions on the market because all aspects of the system and hardware are developed, maintained, manufactured, installed and hosted in the cloud and all rule based reports are distributed to stakeholders to the requirements of the end user. The millions of real time records in the database over a 24 hour period are analysed and compared to a planned schedule. All set parameters for quality, waste and engineering sensors are continuously monitored and alarmed.

Large logistics and multinational companies are sought to partner to co-develop (technical cooperation) the system to improve efficiencies, increase productivity and reduce waste. The envisaged partnership, once the system has been co-developed to meet end user requirements, would be for the hardware and software to be sold with the client funding capital costs, installing the system, hosting and analysing the data, preparing reports and providing advice with regard to continuous improvement for processes and distribution. A monthly or per use fee would be charged.
