The Estonian company is operating in the field of electronics, information and communication technologies. It has been a coordiator or a partner of several European Union Framework Programme projects and owns a considerable patent portfolio. The company´s technologies have been applied in new smart systems and products in health care, food production and public infrastructure. They currently employ 60 researchers and engineers and work closely in cooperation with many universities.

Impedance spectroscopy is a versatile tool for examining the properties of different materials and objects, e.g. metal alloys, chemicals, electrochemical cells. The technology has become an important tool for investigating the properties and quality of solar cell devices and biological organisms.

The company is offering a signal processing method for real-time measurement and identification of complex impedances in a wide frequency range. It is used for designing measurement instruments for performing fast impedance spectroscopy of dynamic objects.

Up until recently all available instruments have been expensive, energy hungry, bulky and relatively slow. The offered technology is so far one of the most promising new advancements in this area. It is offering a compact alternative to large devices that is able to integrate into different measurement units depending on the required configuration.

The company is interested in co-operating with industrial companies, R-Y-D institutions and universities and the types of partnerships considered are commercial agreements with technical assistance, license agreements and research cooperation agreements. The company is interested in research cooperation to validate the use of the technology in different application areas. The outcome would be also to adjust the product to the specific needs of different application and local user to facilitate technology transfer through this process. Moreover, the outcome of offering technical configuration services and licensing to companies/partners interested in applying the impedance technology is to get a more systematic understanding of how the technology works in different applications and contexts.
Advantages and Innovations:
The offered technology has several advantages over other measurement technologies. It is applicable to multiple measurement objects and materials due to the easily adaptable excitations signals used in the process. The technology applies a short wideband multi-frequency excitation signal to the object under testing. Generally, many different excitation signals can be used for system identification in a wide frequency range. These include sinusoids, sums of sinusoids for simultaneous multi-frequency measurement or spectroscopy, shorter or longer sweeps and chirps, as well as different square wave signals. The final choice over which excitation signals to use is generally a compromise between conflicting requirements, such as the available hardware and the measurement task at hand.

It has a more qualitative signal to noise ratio during measurement while being energetically superior to other technologies. The technology enables to generate a selected excitation signal waveform digitally in a very short timeframe, while concentrating the excitation energy onto certain frequency components of interest. These optimal waveforms help to maximize the ratio of the Root-Mean-Square value (RMS-value) of the signal to the peak value of it. It is relatively straightforward to adapt the excitation signal to the object under measurement, which in turn enables to easily maximize its response signal. Due to the optimal design of the excitation signal, the spectrum of the binary waveform excitation can cover several frequency decades.

Another important advantage is the speed of the company´s impedance spectroscopy. The wideband multi-frequency binary excitation signal is easy to generate compared with spectrally similar multi-sinusoids. This enables to cut costs on hard- and software engineering as well as the end product.
