Description:
Currently, the most recognizable soil cultivation technologies include the use of chemicals. Chemical fertilizers in continuous use cause degradation of the soil in agricultural fields, provoke environmental pollution and damage human health.

Alternative to chemical fertilizers is usage of bio-fertilizers which are substances which contains living microorganisms. Bio-fertilizers, when applied to seeds, plant surfaces, or soil, colonize the rhizosphere or the interior of the plant and promote growth by increasing the supply or availability of primary nutrients to the host plant. Bio-fertilizers add nutrients through the natural processes of nitrogen fixation, solubilizing phosphorus, and stimulating plant growth through the synthesis of growth-promoting substances. By applying bio-fertilizers the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides can be reduced. The microorganisms in bio-fertilizers restore the soil´s natural nutrient cycle and build soil organic matter. Through the use of bio-fertilizers, healthy plants can be grown, while enhancing the sustainability and the health of the soil.

The company from Latvia dealing with designing and manufacturing of bioreactor lines offers a technology for production of bio-fertilizers. Two bioreactor lines are installed to manufacture biological products that increase soil fertility, restore its natural balance and increase plant productivity. The main products consist of bacteria that fix nitrogen, release phosphorus, increase potassium absorption and restrict plant diseases that are caused by fungi.

First line consists of 50, 500 and 5000 litre bioreactors, but second line consists of 50, 500, 5000 and 20000 litre bioreactors. In all bioreactors novel magnetic drive mixers are installed (also in 20 000 litre bioreactor). The systems are fully closed and all operation between bioreactors, CIP (Clean-in-Place), SIP (Sterilization-in-Place) and mixing vessels is completely automated.

The company offers commercial agreement with technical assistance for installation of bioreactor line and know-how transfer to interested parties.
Advantages and Innovations:
Each individual bioreactor is equipped with a technological stand, to ensure automatic fermentation, cleaning, sterilizing, heating and cooling process. Local control of each bioreactor occurs via colour touch screen display. The local control of each individual bioreactor is provided, apart from the rest of other bioreactors.

Central cascade control system (CCCS) ensures connection between different bioreactors and CIP/SIP systems, as well as with computerized software SCADA (Supervisory control and data acquisition). The CCCS controls certain groups of valves depending on the selected recipe and the condition of the respective sensors in the bioreactors, as well as in the system CIP/SIP and pipelines (medium presence sensors are installed in the vent groups).

The central cascade control system directly controls the following processes in the selected bioreactors or pipelines: CIP cleaning, SIP sterilization, nutrition media feed, biomass (e.g. inoculum) transfer from one bioreactor to another, and bioreactor emptying. Before starting the process, new recipe must be selected or prepared. In each recipe, the movement rout of substrate, product, CIP solution and SIP steam is controlled.
