Description:
A French SME is expert in development of conductive and heating wires for energy transfer or energy harvesting inside flexible structures (technical textile, elastomer, and composites).

They have developed a new flexible grid to bring a functional layer within composites´ parts. This grid is made of conductive and heating wires allowing the heat energy being closer to its point of use according to the functionalization needed. It can be used for the specific application of de-icing on large composite parts. Another possible functionalization is the deformation monitoring.

This flexible grid can be easily placed as a composite layer, especially in case of complex and deformable shape. There is no need of cutting the heating circuit thanks to the flexible behavior of the grid. This unique grid, on all the surface of the composite part, allows the power supply being done by only two connections, which simplify the final use of the functionalization.

Several kinds of wires and grid are proposed to fulfill the requirements of the partner. The company has developed a small calculator (to be download on internet) to help the client choosing the appropriate product for its application.

Technical advantages:
-Wires proposed offer high intrinsic fatigue strength giving resistance to repeated bending of the filaments, which is essential in flexible composites but also in stiff composites.
-Wires are extruded into relatively thin, flexible insulating PTFE that is high temperature resistant and do not adhere to the final composite. This insulating layer on the wire allows offsetting the effect of expansion, keeping these effects from turning into a mechanical stress.
-Wires show good dielectric constraint to avoid hot points. Wires proposed these good dielectric properties to be used with power supply of 230V and keep low thickness for a good drapability. For some kinds of applications (for example specific case of carbon or conductive composites), the company can propose simple or double insulation of the wire (PTFE + Glass).
