Summary:
A German SME, active in the field of software engineering, has developed an application which informs the driver about free parking space. To verify that the technology works in the operational environment, the company is looking for partners who could integrate the application in their own system or who have good connections to local mobility markets and/or on administration departments. They are interested in a technical cooperation agreement with partners from Sweden, Spain or Italy.
Description:
The German software SME has used realtime data about mobility behavior to develop a set of algorithms (based on Software Development Kit technology). Those can be used in navigation apps and in-car navigation solutions. The app reports when a user is about to vacate an on-street parking spot. This way other users of the app can use the space. The app also includes an automatic parking-spot tagging feature that can be enabled to automatically detect when a user´s car is vacating a spot, using sensors in their smartphones. It then posts the vacated space to the community to help others find somewhere to park. Vacated spots identified in this way are displayed with a timer to let other users gauge how likely it is the parking place is still free. The app includes other features such as the ability to find a parking car if the car drivers cannot remember where they parked it, and a reminder feature for when a parking meter is about to expire. The technology could be also used for innovative Smart City deployments supporting the work of traffic managers and city planners to detect free parking spots and to analyze traffic streams.
Within the Phase 2 project of the SME Instrument the company tries to fulfil two overall objectives: to demonstrate that the technology works in the operational environment and to enhance the existing algorithms with a component that enables the technology to self-adopt to new local settings, which would reduce the time and costs of implementation significantly.
The app could be integrated in all existing urban mobility apps (like traffic apps, pay-by-phone parking apps or car sharing apps), by all navigation providers and car manufacturers.
The company is looking for potential partners especially in the city of Barcelona, Milan and Stockholm who could integrated the app in their own system for testing and validating the technology in the framework of a technical cooperation agreement.
Advantages and Innovations:
The technology addresses individual as well as societal problems related to parking space search and road congestion by building a smart, integrated, technology-based, easy to use and cost-free system that renders the traffic more efficient. This decreases negative effects on humans and the environment while at the same time it fulfills today´s need for fast and individualized urban mobility.
